A very fine embroidered and painted silk memorial picture. Showing a young lady playing the harp besides a monument with urn in a mountainous landscape. Inscribed on glass in "verre eglomise" technique in French: "Fait Par Anna Izeli 1826" (made by Anna Izeli 1826) - maybe of Swiss origin, Iseli is a typical name in Switzerland. The subject of these pictures was a fashionable expression of romantic sorrow in Neoclassicism - Biedermeier...

This stunning Feathered Stars crib quilt has the additional feature of being reversible. The front side is a group of both Feathered and Evening Stars in a wonderful variety of red prints. They are set on a solid glazed blue cotton. The front is in spotless condition. The reverse is a triangles pattern done with two different prints (one with a glaze) and the same solid blue as on the other side. There is one smudge in the center diamond. The quilt measures 42" x 43 1/2"...

This glazed chintz Wholecloth quilt is as crisp as the day it was made some 160 years ago. It was certainly packed away and did not see the light of day. The printed fabric consists of rows of floral bouquets. It is probably English. It is unusual that such an elegant front has a very plain cotton backing. It is quilted with chevron patterns throughout. The quilt measures 96" x 98". It is from the Plumer Humphreys Barton family, one of the first settlers of Newbury, Massachusetts...

A three-color overshot coverlet with a pattern of snowballs and stripes on the dark ground side. The border on three sides is wavy lines and the fringe is a continuation of the white warp threads on the bottom and the red and blue weft threads on the sides. The warp is cotton and the weft is wool. The seam down the middle indicates that it was done on a narrow loom, though the sophisticated design and the three colors suggest that it was woven by a professional. Length without fringe approx....

On the left is a lovely, small huswif. Fabrics making up the six pockets are in excellent condition and date as early as 1840. Fabric on the outside shows a tiny bit of wear. Measurements are 2 1/2" x 10". On the right is the most unusual huswif I've seen. I don't know of another with round pockets. The fabrics on the front are in perfect condition. The outside is made like a penny rug, again a feature I have never seen. There is a little bit of wear to the tan circles...

The tiny scale of these LeMoyne Stars could not make them any more precious. Each star is 2 3/4" in diameter. They are made with a fabric of crescent moons. The corner blocks have stars with the same fabric. The five strip borders have a different geometric print. Condition is excellent. The quilt measures 70" x 80". New York State origin; circa 1870's.

This charming Double Nine Patch quilt has smaller than postage stamp pieces. Each block measures a mere half an inch in diameter. It is made entirely of solid color fabrics. Consistent use of red centers enhances the diagonal chain effect. The ten borders repeat the colors used throughout the quilt. The white blocks are quilted with patterns of feathered flowers. Measurements are 75" x 87". Indiana origin; circa 1920.

I am taking the liberty of naming this unusual pattern as Feathered Pinwheels. The four blocks in the center are a traditional Pinwheel but the addition of triangles around it create something new. Placement of the triangles creates an overall diamond pattern in addition. The quilt is made of a small white on blue print. It is very nicely quilted with feathers throughout. It has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Measurements are 32" x 34"...

These are barely worn leather shoes made in the second quarter of the 19th century. They have a label from Rodney's Manufacturer at 17 North Third Street in Philadelphia. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, shoemaking was one of Philadelphia's leading industries. In the 1850's, shoes began to be made shaped for left and right feet...

This French toile de jouy fabric was undoubtedly made for the American market as it depicts the Mohicans at the Waterfall. The front of the quilt is cotton and the back appears to be linen. The front is in excellent condition. There are some holes on the back that seem to be where the quilt was caught in the bedsprings. The fabric is richly colored shades of red and pink. It does not have any of the brownish tones that show on my monitor. Measurements are 93" x 98".

This Baskets Quilt has so much going on that it is difficult to know how to name it. An appliqued flower comes out of each basket. It has a triple diagonal sashing intersecting with Nine Patch blocks. Repeated use of the green calico on the base of the baskets; handles and flower stems makes a nice balance to the strong use of solid red. Stems of the flowers are finely embroidered. The quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. It measures 88 inches square. It is nicely quilted with pinwheel p...

This tiny handsewn patch work quilt has just on square that has a little hole. One of the long sides the edge has a bit out of it, maybe it caught on something. The sewing is somewhat unskilled and appears to have been a labor of love rather than perfection. It has a lot of charm and nice enough to be uses on a doll bed or hung on a wall. The fabric backing the quilt is very fragile and fraying but it is nice that it doesn't affect the front. This is a nice early folk art doll quilt from the 187...
