At first glance, this may look like a Log Cabin quilt but in fact, it is concentric squares with Four Patch centers. The quilt is made entirely of wool challis with the same red and green prints used throughout. The centers are a greater selection of prints, many of which have light tones that give a bit of a twinkle to an otherwise fairly dark quilt. It is in excellent condition. Measurements are 82" x 92', quite large for the time period. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

The choice of fabrics makes this quilt an unusual combination of patterns. Rarely does one see all three sides of a Tumbling Block done in the same material. That, combined with the fact that the fabric is more subdued than the Stars, makes the cubes recede while the Stars are more dominant. The floral printed border combines leaves and vines in two colors in a very graceful design. The quilt is in outstanding, probably unwashed condition. Measurements are 80" x 85"...

It's difficult to imagine a more charming doll quilt than this delightful Bowtie. The contrast of dark and light makes for a strong graphic. The maker was clearly proud to quilt it on a sewing machine as she used white thread to highlight the stitching. The concentric chevrons quilted in the border are a nice decorative touch. The interior is quilted with squares. The quilt measures 14 1/4" x 14 1/2". The front is in pristine condition...

Nothing could be more of the moment than this patriotic flag quilt depicting Old Glory. It was most likely made either for the admission of Arizona into statehood on February 14, 1912 or during World War I which took place from 1914 - 1918. In either case, its timelessness remains. The quilt is beautifully executed with the stripes truly having the appearance of blowing in the wind. The flagpole is done with considerable detailing and the tassel wrapped around it is exceptional...

This Blazing Stars quilt combines perfectly with the Hourglass off blocks to create a very dynamic pattern. The stars are made with unusually small diamond shaped pieced that alternate the solid white with dark printed fabrics. The eye is drawn to the dark brown LeMoyne Star centers. The stars seem to pop off the deep indigo ground. The quilt is in excellent condition. Measurements are 80 inches square. Pennsylvania Mennonite origin; made circa 1880.

Stunning version of a Roman Stripe quilt done on an unusual dark brown ground. The quilt is almost all wool with occasional pieces of velvet and cotton sateen. The fabric of the maroon inner border is used throughout the quilt. Both borders are quilted with cable patterns and half wreaths in the interior. The backing is black cotton sateen. This quilt was illustrated in Patricia Coblentz and Robert Bishop's "New Discoveries in American Quilts" published in 1975...

This Nine Patch quilt actually forms two additional patterns. Triangles in the corners of the off blocks create Octagons and the joining of the peach triangles on diagonals creates an Hourglass pattern as well. The quilt is a beautiful shade of peach, not often seen. It is softer in color than appears on my monitor. It is nicely quilted with diamonds in the white octagons and diagonal lines in the triple border...

The unusual Patriotic quilt is made entirely of printed bunting. By its very nature, the fabric is light and gauzy. The quilt is tied on the back. It measures 62 inches square. On the back the printed label is visible indicating that the fabric was patented in 1898. It also says "Made expressly for...." but I cannot decipher the name of the maker company. Condition is good but nor perfect. There are some water marks along two edges but the interior is without problems...

This Barnraising Log Cabin crib quilt is the perfectly scaled down version of a pattern usually seen as a full size quilt. The crib measures 36 inches square with each block 5 inches in diameter. It is in unused, pristine condition with a beautiful variety of late 19th century printed fabrics. The center of each block and the border are the same solid red. The border is quilted in dark thread with a cable pattern. Lancaster, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

This reversible doll quilt has a One Patch pattern on both sides. The side with smaller squares has a triangle border on one end to indicate that it was meant for the head. There is some staining in one of the border triangles but no other condition mentionables. Each piece is outlined with pale yellow embroidery. The reverse side is made up of larger squares (approximately 2 1/2" to a side)...

Charming Pinwheels Crib Quilt done on a wonderful small scale. Each Pinwheel block measures 2 3/4 inches in diameter. The red Pinwheel blades really pop against the blue calico ground. The border is nicely quilted with a pattern of diamonds. The quilt has been washed in its lifetime and remains in very good condition. There is one small snag in the blue that is about the size of a pea but no other condition mentionables. The backing is a Bars pattern of the same red and blue fabrics used on the...

Friendship Quilt, 78" X 80", circa 1930, soft peach background with 25 blocks containing 24 sets of initials and one signed Grama. The 25, 9" blocks are done in the "Chimney Sweep" design. There is extensive hand quilting in diamond, club and what appears to be water lilies designs. The quilting is hand stitched at 10" per inch. The binding is hand sewn. The batting is medium weight. The quilt is fresh and clean and has no tears or apparent repairs. The front of the quilt has no stains or fadin...

This Hourglass crib quilt can be seen as several different patterns. There is the diagonal design in which the indigo triangles make up the bow tie. Alternatively, the primary pattern can be seen as the indigo Four Patch with the light triangles making up the Hourglasses. The binding is the back turned over to the front. While every indication is that it has been this way for many years, it is odd that on one edge, pieces of each block seem to be cut off. This is visible in thumbnail photos. ...

This Lone Star (aka Texas Star or Star of Bethlehem) doll quilt is a terrific miniature. Rarely does one see a small one in this pattern. The quilt measures 23 1/2 inches square. Because it is square, it would look especially good if hung on point. It is well quilted with floral medallions in the corners around the Star; cable in the pink border and diagonal lines in the outer border. The front is in spotless condition. There are scattered small orange spots on the back that do not show throu...

after the fall of antwerp in 1585 craftsmen and artists emigrate to escape spanish domination.we find some in Delft .These works on the collections of tapestries have highlighted the duality of this medium, its decorative end: the fabrics are generally strongly colored and their patterns charged with meaning, since the carpets most often represent stories (these are considerations that 'also apply to painting). The decorative function of the tapestry is inseparable from its social and political...
