A very nice child size red, white and blue checked bonnet. It has the cardboard stays that are removable so the bonnet can be washed. I like this feature because you can hang the bonnet on a peg rack so much easier without the stays. It is in good condition it just one spot at the very top of the brim...see picture. It is 13" top to bottom and 9" front to back.

This wonderful Thousand Pyramids crib quilt is made with a rich variety of late 19th century printed fabrics. The maker continued the pattern theme with larger triangles for the inner border. As if she hadn't pieced enough, she continued with a One Patch pattern for the reverse. The quilt is in mint, unwashed condition. Measurements are 47 1/2" square. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

This Streak of Lightning quilt is most unusual in its construction. It is made with small triangles, more reminiscent of an Ocean Waves than the usual Streak of Lightning. It is exquisitely quilted with detailed wreaths and hearts in each white block. It is made with a beautifully coordinated selection of printed fabrics. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in pristine condition. Measurements are 82" x 96": Pennsylvania origin. Made 1870's.

This is a very beautiful doll quilt all hand sewn and quilted with just the best very early calico and chintz fabric from 1820-30's. It looks fabulous hung or on a doll bed or used as a table mat. It is a wonderful study of early fabrics. It looks like it was made into a doll quilt in 1870-80's by the little red calico print fabric used at the top edge. The back is the original back and is early chintz blue green fabric. It is 18 1/2" by 15".

A nicely stitched sampler by Mary Thomas, no date, with the inscription Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled. The edge is embroidered with leaves and flowers, with a floral garland under the verse. The prominent budding vase is in the center with fruit baskets and boats on either side. The boats are very interesting perhaps an indication that Mary travelled, lived near the ocean, or had sailor relatives...

A very nice pair of antique hand knit blue and white cotton socks with a initials at the top. I think the initials are WWF. The stockings are knit with three different weight cotton yarn the heaviest is the wonderful true blue that is the foot and ankle where all the wear is and the area where you want the most cushioning. The lighter blue is medium weight and the white is the lightest where you don't want it to bind. The have been used but not abused...

Both the pattern and colors make this Sunburst quilt a really powerful design. I like to think that the center and corners choices of flowers warmed by the sun are a symbolic choice as well as good design. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. The body is quilted with postage stamp size squares and a cable pattern in the border. An identical quilt is in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum and is attributed to a member of Alverda H...

This Pinwheels crib quilt is set up in such a way that it creates an additional pattern of Streak of Lightning with the sashing. It is made with a very Pennsylvania combination of calico fabrics. The sawtooth border is a nice follow through of the triangle theme of the interior of the quilt. There are several very light spots of some color loss on the peach fabric that are visible with close examination but they are very minor...

This classic Lone Star (aka Star of Texas or Star of Bethlehem) quilt is finely pieced and quilted. The solid colors add punch to the dramatic pattern. The scalloped edge, in addition to the elaborate quilting, adds softness to this very bold design. Measurements are 84" x 86" to the outside edges of the scallops; pristine condition. Berks County, Pennsylvania; circa 1920.

At first glance, this Hexagons pattern may look like Seven Sisters. With a closer look, it is evident that these blocks are filled with triangles, not the stars of Seven Sisters. It appears that the maker created a unique design. It is made with an extensive variety of printed fabrics with solid red and orange drawing attention to each of the centers. Measurements are 62" x 78". It is is very good, unwashed condition. There is an area of several inches of color loss on the border...

The red and green outer borders are good complements to the interior fabrics. It is well quilted with cable patterns in the borders. Mint, unwashed condition. A Canton hand embroidered silk piano shawl with a vibrant design of large red flowers and a vine and leaf motif with multicolored smaller flowers set against a black background. The embroidery is of a superb and dense quality silk floss. On each of the four sides is a black elaborately knotted net "bridge" between the scarf and the long fringes.

This fine example is in excellent overall condition and measures 50" square with an additional 14" fringe on each side.

Rare 19th Century needlepoint of a young girl feeding a deer while a playful cat is rolling under a table. In its original frame, which in itself is quite unusual, this was a memorial piece as evidenced by the broken tree/trees symbolizing a life cut short. We don't know much about its history except that it belonged to a New England family who retired in North Carolina. It measures 24 inches high and 21" wide. The photos are shot out of the frame and in the frame. Dates mid or early 1800's.

This charming Sampler Quilt is appliqued with many of the elements the maker likely saw on her farm. In addition to a horse; cow; rooster; cat; vegetables; flowers and birds it has the most unusual feature of a hand saw! There are also some unidentified appliques. It is difficult to know whether they were meant as abstract shapes or, more likely, had meaning to the maker. The initials A.S are appliqued but unfortunately, not an entire name. The quilt is from Kimberton, Pennsylvania...

This unusual Center Medallion would be described by most as a mother-daughter quilt. The center pieced and appliqued original design was done in the 1860's and the outer frames completed some twenty or thirty years later. The center is a quirky and original design surrounded by more traditional tulips. The red outer frames are done in a calico print from the late 19th century. The quilt has been professionally laundered...

Antique flannel dog filled with grain or sawdust that makes him feel like a bean bag and allows him to stand nicely. He has big bead eyes and replaced floppy ears. The original ears must have been further back where you see a white patch. That patch is white flannel that hasn't gotten dirty. This finely made Carolina Lily quilt is enhanced by the solid and sawtooth frames. The wide white border is an excellent showcase for the quilted feather with stars; leaves and flowers. The off blocks within the quilt alternate star and flower patterns similar to those in the border. It is interesting that rather than all of the flowers facing each other, the bottom row faces up giving a more graceful appearance to the entire composition. The quilt measures 91" x 98", ample for a king size bed. ...

This classic Album Patch quilt is made with a beautiful selection of fabrics from the third quarter of the 19th century. A rich paisley print is used for most of the sashing and pulls together the many other printed fabrics. A related paisley print is used both within the quilt and as an anchoring border. The quilt is in outstanding condition. Measurements are 77" x 80". Maryland origin; circa 1870.

This Windmill Blades Log Cabin quilt (aka Pineapple Log Cabin) is a very fine Victorian example. The logs are very narrow measuring just 1/4 of an inch. This creates many contrasting light and dark blocks and the swirling effect one expects in the Windmill pattern. The body of the quilt is made of silks and satins with a blue velvet border. There is slight damage to the dark silks near the center where the quilt has been folded for a long time. The number of damaged strips is minimal compared w...

This lovely Irish Chain crib quilt is framed with the ultimate border. The stepped, curved applique creates a terrific positive/negative image. Two antique pieces of blue and white fabric. The top one is homespun and is the top to a feather tick. It has been washed so many times that it is very thin and soft and is seamed down the middle. This piece is 56" by 67" and it is $185.00 The second piece is blue and white cotton and some people would call it homespun but I believe it is early mill work. It is a full tick so it has a back and a front both are blue and white and it has lots of patches of varying ages. These feather ticks were o...

This Classic Baltimore album quilt has all of the fine needlework that one expects to find in this most prized category of 19th century quilts. It is beautifully quilted with tiny stitches and graceful patterns that wraparound the appliqued blocks. The vine and flowers border beautifully carries through the applique in the body of the quilt. The quilt has the...

This Nine Patch crib quilt is as crisp and fresh as the day it was made in the 1920's. It is nicely quilted with a waffle pattern and chevrons in the border. The quilt is well scaled with each block measuring 3 inches in diameter. It is an ideal shade of soft medium blue that is a little more gray than shows on my monitor. Measurements are 36" x 54"; Pennsylvania origin.

It's safe to say that this folky sampler or album crib quilt is a one of a kind. The blocks are appliqued; ruched and embroidered. Many are floral motifs but it also includes an American flag; eagle; stars and moon as well as two not quite determined animals. It's interesting that even though there is a range of detail and skill, it all appears to have been done by the same hand. The front is a wool ground with primarily wool applique and embroidery that seems to be late 19th century. The rib...

This Tumbling Blocks quilt is made more special by the fact that it is a charm quilt - that is, no fabric is repeated. Many look similar, particularly the double pinks, but upon close examination it is evident that each is different. It is in very good condition. This Cockscomb and Currants (aka Grapes and Oak Leaf) applique quilt is done with very fine stitching. The quilting depicts patterns of ferns and a variety of leaves. It is believed to have been made by Miss Effie Kinder in Jackson, Missouri; circa 1870. Measurements are 74" x 96".

This beautifully crafted quilt combines two traditional patterns that I have never seen abutting one another. The red and white blocks are Fox and Geese (aka Double X or Crosses and Losses). Placing them next to the Pinwheels of such different colors makes for two equally dominant patterns that play well off each other. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in pristine condition. It has beautiful quilting that includes a graceful feather throughout the border. Measurements are 90"...
