Lovely antique floral microbeaded reticule, in vivid colors. The background is bright turquoise-tinged blue; a vine of many colored morning glories climbs up the right half of the purse. Missing half of the beaded twist fringe; two repairs at the top; a few small scattered areas of missing beads; replaced liner. But a beautiful, mostly intact example of micro beadwork. Measures 8” long by 5 3/4'” wide; fringe adds 1 1/2”.

It's safe to say that this folky sampler or album crib quilt is a one of a kind. The blocks are appliqued; ruched and embroidered. Many are floral motifs but it also includes an American flag; eagle; stars and moon as well as two not quite determined animals. It's interesting that even though there is a range of detail and skill, it all appears to have been done by the same hand. The front is a wool ground with primarily wool applique and embroidery that seems to be late 19th century...

It's difficult to find a name for this dynamic geometric quilt because it forms so many patterns. The basic block is much like a Basket pattern. The adjoining red blocks form a Bow Tie or Hourglass. Each square divided into a red and green triangle surrounded by a peach sawtooth is another way to look at the primary pattern. In sum, it's a fabulous, original piece with a lots of movement. The unlikely combination of these solid colors adds to the drama of the piece...

This Hole in the Barn Door Indiana Amish crib quilt was obviously treasured as it is as crisp and fresh as when it was made 100 years ago. A lengthy note sewn to the reverse describes its history. It was made by Fannie Miller (Hochstetler) who was born in Nappanee, Indiana in 1896...

This Nine Patch Crib Quilt must have been made by someone with a droll sense of humor. The centers utilize printed fabric with geese and the entire piece is framed by a Wild Goose Chase border. I prefer to think this was not coincidence. Unused condition; has several tiny spots that I do not think merit laundering. Quilted with diagonal lines. Utilizes several different blue fabrics. Measures 36" x 37". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.

This Baskets quilt is actually pieced as many traditional baskets are but the placement of color makes it an unusual variation. The body of the Basket looks like a Flying Geese pattern because the white triangles are on the outside and it doesn't have the blue to give the appearance of an outline. Whether this was intentional or not, we will never know but it makes for a very interesting pattern...

This precisely made New York Beauty quilt is a fine example of a desirable and difficult to execute pattern. It is well pieced and quilted. The off blocks are stitched with large wreaths. LeMoyne stars are a good choice for the centers of each block. It has been professionally laundered and is in pristine condition. The quilt measures a generous 90" x 96". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920's.
