This miniature hexagons quilt is quite astounding on several levels. It has the smallest hexagons I have seen. They measure about 3/4" to a side. The fabrics range from the 1830's to 1870's. The quilt is in mint, unwashed condition. Use of the red circles is terrific in creating a focus. Quilts such as this with thousand of pieces were often made in the late 19th century for competitions at fairs. I hope this got the blue ribbon it deserves! Measurements are 71" x 83".

Antique Moroccan dowry embroidery (Rabat, late 19th, early 20th), completely reversible, very good condition--that is in my experience exceptional, these pieces are generally fragmentary or worn when they reach the market-- measuring 40" x 56". Very rare in complete and untouched condition. This type of weaving was generally used by Moroccan Jewish families during the elaborate wedding ceremony (cf: "Jewish life in Morocco", where a similar embroidery is pictured).

Fine and rare antique Rabat embroidery, offered in overall good condition (one small area of discoloration, one very small hole). It measures approximately 30" by 37" and is, as always with this sort of embroidery, reversible. This piece appears to date from the 19th century (most of the pieces we encounter are early 20th century productions.) This type of textile from Morocco is extremely rare and collectable...

Wonderful Art Nouveau style 19th century silk hand-embroidery of a golden hair maiden (a bride?) holding a bouquet of pink flowers, framed within a lacy tree arbor and standing atop a blanket of daisies. Lovely pastel colors in soft shades of pink, green, blue and yellow make this piece feminine and serene. Unusual handmade frame with glass, front and back cut in a stylized V shape. The back of this piece continues the scrolly tree branch, centered with a pastel blue butterfly...

The fabric used to make this dress is just the best colors of brown and bittersweet. To add to the beauty the hem was let out to lengthen it and it so good looking it is too bad it doesn't show. The body of the dress looks and feels almost new, the arms on the other hand, are almost worn out. The left arm is so worn it is worn through. The little girl must have had a apron coverall over her dress every time she ever wore it...

Fantastic 19th century dance card, probably Austrian, comprising an assemblage of mountain climbing gear, suspended from a chatelaine hook by a blue silk cord and topped with a chenille tassel. The front features what I believe is either a snowshoe or a ski carrier, complete with buckled leather straps, under which lies an ice axe crossed with a trekking pole. The card cover is in blue silk with the original pencil; the pages are empty...

Superb and rare antique needlework pocket on canvas, probably Pennsylvania Dutch, dated 1852. 18th and 19th century pockets took the place of purses; they tied at the waist under skirts and aprons and held anything from keys to money to sewing supplies. The contents were accessed by a vertical slit at the front. This is an amazing piece of folk art: the cross stitch motifs include a stag lying beneath a tree, hearts, flowers initials, and a dog. The header, back and lining are plain linen...
