This French gilt brass mounted porcelain ladies inkwell has been decorated with a hand painted pattern of swags of flowers enclosing a diaper pattern on a yellow ground. The lid has a central rose bud with leaves surrounded by a ring of hand painted flowers. It stands 87 mm (3.5 inches high) and has a diameter at the top of 62 mm (2.5 inches). There is a little damage to the applied rose, a leaf missing and a crack to the base of the glass liner. C 1900.

This turned and carved paper knife is made of bone and is a souvenir of Brighton. Made in four sections that screw together, the finial contains a Stanhope that shows five views of Brighton and the English Channel. It is 234 mm (9.25 inches) long and still fits together beautifully. However there are two short, very fine cracks to the top and a little bit of damage to the finial. c 1880.

This lovely hand painted and gilded papier mache aide memoire would have certainly caught the eye when taken from the ladies purse or handbag. The decoration, which covers both sides, is very reminiscent of a William Morris panel or wallpaper in the Arts and Crafts style. The insides of the covers are lined with a dark blue silk and there are three leaves of coated card, which allow you to write on them with the pencil, and later erase the note. There are still faint traces of writing on these l...

A rare and fantastic Swiss Bells in Sight music box made of inlaid mahogany having 10 airs. The sound is beautifully nostalgic. It has 9 bells which chime with flower and bird strikers. The box is wound by a brass crank concealed on the left in a well. There are levers for starting, stopping; and enabling the chimes. The blind dovetail construction speaks to its quality construction. The box is in good to very good condition, the main defect being a horizontal crack part way across the lid. It i...

This antique Hotpoint Toaster is probably among the earliest produced by Hotpoint, and probably saw very limited production. Let me explain.

This model bears close similarity to one known to be circa 1914 due to having its original box. That copy has underside stamping bearing the patents and dates. My toaster does not have that information, and thus probably precedes the granting of the patent. As such I would venture to date this toaster to c. 1912-14. Hotpoint was founded in 1911...
