Japanese hand-forged iron tsuba, used to protect a swordsman's hand from sliding up the blade during use as well as to provide balance. The front depicts two joyful festival performers, one holding a drum and the other holding a fan, the figures in relief with gilt accenting throughout. The backside of the tsuba shows a large mallet and mortar traditionally used for pounding rice into mochi.

A massive bronze figurine from the medieval period, Islamic, Seljuq Empire, 10th.-11th. century AD.

The lion stands erect on 4 legs and incised details of the mane and head. A particularly charming specimen with finely made features of the head of the Lion, heavy body and seperate legs. Would have been quite expensive in the medieval period with it's high weight of solid bronze and nice workmanship.

A plate with the same border is illustrated in the Impey Collection “Japanese Export Porcelain, Catalogue of the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. This finely detailed Chinese porcelain plate would make a fine addition to any Rose Mandarin or Rose Medallion collection. It is unusual in that the central medallion features a group of scholars. The rough and somewhat gritty bottom of the plate without any factory markings suggest a factory production circa 1850-1891. In very good antique condition, there is some wear to the enameling in one spot. See photos. Measures 9.5 inches diameter.

Antique Nepalese bronze melong, "Mirror of Emptiness". Melong are placed on altars to reflect right thoughts. This melong has a polished center surrounded by flames. It stands on a lotus base.
