This bowl was made during the 14th century. It has a flared rim and has been decorated with underglaze floral and scrolling patterns. In the centre of the inner surface are five spur marks. It is coated in a finely-crackled clear glaze. The recessed base is coated in a partially glazed brown wash.

19th century netsuke of standing peasant woman holding a sickle in one hand, and supporting her son with the other. The boy is holding a bunch of grapes and a basket with long rope handles. Superbly carved, excellent faces, very beautiful flow to their garments, fantastic detailing - see her hair arrangement and finely etched textile patterns. Wonderful wear consistent with age, very pleasant patina, excellent sculpture. Height 2 7/16 inches.

Vietnamese 14th Century Underglazed Bowl

This bowl was made during the 14th century. It has a flared rim and has been decorated in underglaze cobalt with floral and scrolling patterns. In the centre of the inner surface are five spur marks. It is coated in a very-finely crackled clear glaze that has hint of green. Although there is no repair or restoration, there are three small rim chips and two hairline cracks. Diameter 14 cm (5.5 inches).

Early 19th century netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape carved in sunken relief with a man in loincloth having an almost real fight with 2 unagi (Japanese eels), the back showing a basket from which fish escaped. Wonderful quality carving - see the detailing of fish skins and fins, two parts fit nicely, honey colored patina. Signed on the back with 2 characters followed by kakihan (carved monogram) of the artist - the signature is very worn, but appears to read KIOKEI. Diameter 1 5/8 inches.

This bowl was recovered from the Tek Sing shipwreck, the cargo of which was sold at Nagel’s auctioneers in Germany in 2000. It is relatively “heavily-potted” and its surface has a nice “silky” feel to it. It is coated in a finely-crackled glaze. This fine stoneware box was made during the 14th - 15th centuries at one of the Sawankhalok kilns. The cover a lotus-bud handle and the lower section an integral foot. The underglaze decoration comprises various geometric patterns that are covered in a finely-crackled translucent pale greenish-blue glaze.
