The one of 'Sentaibutsu' (lit.‘Thousand Buddhas') as a large number of wood carving Buddhist Jizo images dedicated to the wall of temple. Edo period, 19th century, Japan.
Slightly but still remain its original color and necklace as well. Lovely face with slight smile seen from certain angles. Aged deterioration as is. Halo might be attached in the later years.

19th century wooden netsuke of three turtles - one on the top and 2 forming a base, one of them unhappily resting on its back. Superb detailing - see beautifully incised patterns of their carapaces and leathery texture of their limbs. Himotoshi is formed by their feet, wonderful wear and patina, very pleasant to the touch. Signed TADAJIKO in rectangular reserve on the back - the name is female, which is rather rare among netsuke carvers. Length 1 7/16 inches.
