Chinese Qing dynasty to Republic period rectangular form hinged camphor wood storage box with dove tail joints, narrow removable inner shelf, round brass lock plate at the center front, and brass side carrying handles. Late 19th to early 20th century. 17 1/4" long x 9 3/8” wide x 8 3/4" high. Very good overall condition with only a few fine cracks from age. From the Phoenix, Arizona estate of a former expatriate to China from 1983-1987.

Antique Korean gat, a tall cylindrical hat woven of horsehair with a wide brim. Framed with thin, black lacquered bamboo and with a ribbon for securing under the chin. Black gat were traditionally reserved for men of noble status who had passed the gwageo civil service exams. This hat comes with a custom metal stand.

Rare carnelian bowl with a beautiful deep orange-yellow. The typical Chinese shape is classic, and the capacity is that of a tea bowl. The grinding work is meticulous, the shape is perfect, the Agate has an excellent color which shows shades of color ranging from yellow to orange through transparency. Difficult to date with precision but all these quality criteria seem to indicate a creation from the Qing period. Excellent condition except micro scratches invisible without magnifying glass...

Cast bronze incense burner. Rectangular shape, 4 feet, decoration of sacred pearls framed by stylized dragons, Greek friezes. Each of the feet comes out of the mouth of a Buddhist lion. The walls are very thick, the object is heavy. Lost wax casting has defects. The carving is not of high quality. No mark. However, this incense burner is powerful and has a very beautiful old patina, which makes it a venerable object with a strong presence. Probably Chinese work. Period 18th century or earlier...

Glazed stoneware lime pot. Relief decoration, glued to the slip representing a dragon, a phoenix and Buddhist emblems covered with thick blue, brown and cream enamels. Vietnamese work from the 19th century or before. Some applied elements have peeled off and the enamel has chipped in places over time as can be seen in the photos. Rare ceramic of good quality. Higth: 225mm

Two prints placed under glass, representing two young women, one feeding her little pet, a rat and the other practicing Ikebana, composing a bouquet of irises which will be presented in the vase placed next to her. The hairstyle is typical of women drawn by Suzuki Harunobu, but also by other artists of this period. As it would seem that the Chinese characters simply describe the scenes represented and not the name of the artist, only specialists will be able to know who it is...

This pieces was made in Jingdezhen kiln on North Song dynasty era, stunning blueish white that is the feature of Jingdezhen kiln. It is flower shaped with short stem and has elaborate peony arabesque pattern at the inside surface. Late Meiji (1890s to 1912) Japanese temple boxwood seal of square section. Excellent quality crisp carving in seal script, old red seal paste in the grooves. Metal stud on the side indicates the position of the top of the imprint. Beautiful patina on the surface of wood. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1 (photo is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). Height 2.4 inches, base 0.93 inches square.

An unusual early Meiji period medicine 2-tiered Kusuri chest. Made from 100% quarter sawn kiri (Paulownia) wood, and small hand forged iron pull hardware. Original warm red tones with brown undertones finish give the small chest a great sensibility. Total of 13 individual drawers, used to store and keep natural remedies, herbs and tonics.

A large Japanese transom temple carving framed in black lacquer with gold leaf edging. Temple ranma is masterful made up of a single slab of Keyeki (zelkova) hardwood, carefully carved to reveal there central blossoming lotus flowers along scrolling vines. Original finish showing off natural patina consistent with age. Few loses that have been sorted and stabilized with old repairs done at a high level. Ready to be mounted and installed...

A wonderful example of an original Japanese Armored Safe chest. Constructed of hand selected and quartered sawn keyaki (zalkova hardwood) and hand forged iron hardware / fittings. Thick hinged door opens to reveal 4 individual drawers with secret compartment located under the largest (bottom) drawer. Internal drawers are made of original light kiri (paulownia) wood.

Very rare Raku Kichizaemon IV Ichinyu (1640-1696) black Raku tea bowl.
Comes with an old signed box.

Having become Raku master at the age of 16, Ichinyu was significantly influenced by his father Donyu who died at 58. In general his works are powerful, large in scale but with thin surfaces and bold incisions made with spatula.

In later years he appeared to revert to the style of Chojiro, making compact tea bowls with smaller dimensions and few spatula marks...

A lovely laqered & gilt bronze figure of the infant buddha, standing on a tall Lotus throne, Chinese Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD), probably dating around 1500-1550 AD.
