Antique Japanese 2 section isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Nihonmatsu area. Made with keyaki (elm) wood with dramatic grain and original deep reddish orange translucent lacquer finish. The chest is made up of four large drawers and a safe box in the lower right hand side which has two small drawers behind a locking safe door (with key). Lovely iron hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls, large lock plates with pine motif and elaborate cross bracing on the the safe door...

Japanese Imari Porcelain Octagonal flared out shape Bowl, Ca. Meiji period, before 1900, 10 1/4" wide, 4 1/4" high, with Pine and floral design in rich overglaze enamel in 4 separate panels, other 4 panels have fruits with seeds in underglaze blue, all highlighted with brilliant gold throughout inside and outside the bowl. Gold design is worn on top of the rim slightly, no cracks, no restorations, no damages.

Antique Chinese hardwood folding chair decorated with beautifully incised metal accents. The chair has a leather string that laces through the bottom legs to secure the chair open or closed. It measures 44" tall (folded), 20.5" at widest.

This is the kimono which the child of a rich merchant's family wore for Edo period. This is dyed in local Yuzen dyer. Basics are dyed by 80% in Tsutsugaki, and be colored in a freehand drawing successively, and this is added. The Yuzen dyeing is very rare with the kimono for children. As for this, hemp yarn spun by hand is used. As for this, the part on both sleeves is sewed. It is because the balance of the pictorial representation of this child kimono was thought about...

This old Tibetan pouch would have been worn for festival both for decoration and coins...it is not a flint strike...clearly it has been used (probably passed from generation to generation)...decorated with coral and turquoise...a few metal enhavcements are missiog...

This large disk-shaped ritual object from central Asia - the Bactrian-Margiana Archaeological Complex - is made of marble. Dated in the 3rd to 2nd millennium century BC, it has a smooth, curved-in side, and the concave surface of the face is well-polished. The abstract vein pattern in the marble offers colours of pink-purple, beige, and grey. The use of this kind of object is still uncertain. Some believe these are purely ritual objects...

19th century Asakusa school staghorn netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape decorated on the front with a low relief carving of a bird (possibly a woodpecker) on a tree branch. Beautifully carved, eye inlaid with black horn. Two parts fit snugly, beautiful warm patina, darker porous areas as is usual with staghorn. Japanese samurai dolls are part of the display used for Boy’s Day on every 5th of May in Japan. The dolls are figures of historical heroes or legendary people to inspire the boys of the family (probably husbands are also included today) with their manliness and hopefully discipline and bravery to go along with them. Samurai’s Yoroi armor, Kabuto helmet with swords, bow with arrows are popular items chosen today for the day.

This is a large, very impressive musha ningyo (warrior doll)...

Black-glazed Apulian plate of shallow floor with three stamped palmettes at center. The flat lip, slightly curved on top.
Standing on a low foot in two degrees. Faint imprint from the foot of another dish on the floor.
Covered with a fine black glaze. The expert modeling and the application of a glossy black glaze suggest that the plate was inspired by metal examples.
