An ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 500 BC. It is 9/16” long (14 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

Egyptian head of a king with tightly fitting headdress, the uraeus and the vulture partially preserved on the forehead.
Eyes and eyebrows recessed to bear inlays. Also the body of the rearing uraeus was originally inlayed.
Attractive facial features with slightly aquiline nose and full lips, the almond-shaped eyes with cosmetic lines to the outer corners. False beard missing.

The amulet well-modelled in a fine glossy black obsidian

Size: 73 mm. mm. long.

Condition: Very fine, loss to part of the smaller right fnger.

Two-finger amulets were used for the dead and were often found on the lower left of the torso. This is the area of the incision that was made during the mummification process in order to remove the internal organs...

Interesting Egyptian shabti inscribed with black hieroglyphs reading: “The Osiris Pa-mel”.
The figurine wears a tripartite wig and holds agricultural implements in the crossed hands.
The modeling is crude as with other known examples, the back is flat. Thin greenish glaze on a white crumbly body material. Details of the face and inscription in black.

Carved limestone head of a man with a voluminous wig. The man shows a gentle smile, which is emphasized by the wear of the face’s high points.
The ears appear just below faint sideburns that protrude from the striated wig.

Fragmentary figure of Serapis. With thick wavy hair and thick beard. 2nd/3rd Century A.D. 3 inches high. Mounted. Old Belgian collection. Serapis was an Egyptian god whose devotees united the worship of the Apis bull and the god Osiris. His cult, which originated at Memphis, rose to its greatest significance at Alexandria during the reign of Ptolemy I.

Almond-shaped eye inlays with eyebrows, the well-formed lid and cosmetic line crafted of bronze and inlaid with irises of alabaster; the pupils in black pigment. Perhaps from an anthropoid sarcophagus or a monumental statue.
