BURNISHED POTTERY BILBIL
Cypriot; Holy Land – Late Bronze Age, 1550 – 1200 BC

Burnished pottery spindle-shaped body, long cylindrical ridged neck, flat out-turned broad rim, flat handle from neck to shoulder, splaying base. Dark brown to blacl smooth burnished suface.

During the Late Bronze Age little jugs, known, as "Bil-bils" were importaed into Canaan. They have been discovered at various sites in Israel. Lachish, Jerusalem, and Gezer, mostly in funerary contexts...

Authentic Ancient Holy Land. circa.50 B.C to 50 A.D. Time of Jesus and King Herod the Great Terracotta Oil lamp with rounded, compressed body and short spout with flared nozzle with would have held a wick which, soaked in combustible would have been lit to provide the light in the house.

Provenance: Ex Private old Canadian collection of antiques and antiquities formed in the 1980s.

Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
