Another substantial Roman silver seal ring with a red carnelian intaglio, 1st.-3rd. cent AD

The ring a typical compressed Roman design and the carnelian stone engraved with a depiction of the Dioskouroi.

Size: c. 24 mm. wide and weighing 8.1 grams. The ring-size is c. 19 mm. x 16 mm., so it fits the typical ring-finger of a smaller male or a female hand.

Condition: Very fine, intact, but the stone was reset and there's chips to the silver-setting...

Interesting and attractive gold Quatrefoil openwork pendant with small loop at one side and an engraved cross in the center, Roman-Darkage c. 4th.-6th. cent. BC.

A heavy hanger, very attractive. The gold is almost pure and around 22 carats or so. The central cross was deliberately erased at one point in antiquity, which could have been done by pagans / romans in the late antiquity.

Size: 19-20 mm. in diameter and weighing a solid 3.45 grams.

The ring finely made in high grade silver and engraved with a bird on the oval bezel.

Condition: Very fine and intact, some fragments reassembled nicely, but intact, nothing missing.

A very nice lot of stringed glass bead and bird-amulets etc. also in coloured glass, including a perfect condition, Roman miniature glass jug with handle and openwork design, c. 1st.-4th. century AD.

Size: c. 40 cm. of beads and amulets in a single row, the jug is c. 21-22 mm. tall.

Roman red-ware fragment of a lamp with a partially preserved horse on the discus.
The animal head with flared nostrils, open mouth and bare teeth. The big eye with eyelashes, the ears laid back. Mane and tail hatched.
Trappings around the neck and the croup decorated with tiny dots. On the croup a swastika with dots in the interstices, possibly a brand...

For almost the same lion on an Orpheus bowl, cf. 1981.658 in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston...

The rim is decorated with facing Oceanus heads alternating with fishes. The finely rendered heads show bushy beards extending to both sides and goat-like ears. The lobster claws expected in the hair of Oceanus are mistakenly rendered as ram horns, the usual attribute for Zeus Ammon.

The impressed mark refers to C(aius) Clo(dius) Suc(cessus) whose Italic workshop had branches in Africa Proconsularis.
Loeschke type VIII lamp with plain discus set off by grooves. Small filling hole at center, tiny air hole pierced below.
Plain outward-sloping shoulder with arched bowshaped volutes, whose knobs continue down the side of the basin wall.
The nozzle separated from the discus by a straight horizont...
