A choice quality sharp cylinder seal, Old Babylonian period 2200-1800 BC.

The seal is engraved in black silverish hematite.

The scene shows the supreme god facing right holding a mace, facing left an assistant godess with hands raised in supplication. Between them symbols of the moon and sungod and several other symbols of the god-like power.

Made in a two piece mold this figure depicts an eagle standing upright with its chest exposed and wings slightly spread, the head turned to the right, its beak slightly opened. In excellent condition this piece is extremely detailed in all its features, most notably the delineated pupils, nostrils and the demarcation of each feather. Although easier to achieve with a mold than through carving, this level of detail is nonetheless noteworthy...

Rare Old Babylonian cylinder seal, dating, 2100-1800 BC.

Exceptionally sharp cylinder seal with the great King standing before the godess Ana, another godess to his left, standing facing.

Note that there's c. 200 years between adding the last godess to this seal. It's not unusual that engravings were added later to cylinder seals and in the this case is the difference in style very distinct...

Fragmentary glazed faience amulet of the Egyptian god, Thoth, depicted as a man with the head of an ibis. Wearing a striated tripartite wig, striated kilt, arms down alongside body and with a large, exaggerated beak. Late Period - Ptolemaic Period, 600-30 B.C. 2 inches high. Pierced for suspension.
