This mid. 19th century Japanese Imari (Aka-e) vase is almost 10 ½” high and 4 ¾” on widest part. There are two sections; one depicts a painted phoenix, butterfly and maple tree, the other depicts a geisha holding an umbrella standing in front of iris and hanging flowers. The rest of the vase is decorated with floral and textile designs. It is in perfect condition.

Superb late Meiji Period C.1900 bronze lamp that used oil and wick. Absolutely spectacular bronze craftsmanship and detail from floral vine lattice on the door and side panels to the treasure symbols in fine relief around the base. H:49cm; diameter:30cm. Japanese early 20th century iron kettle by KIRYUDO. This pot is done with a pair of crane on a pine tree design in low relief on the front side of the kettle. The handle on the lid is done in the shape of a pine cone. KIRYUDO is done in chop mark on the back side of the kettle along with some other illegible characters. This iron pot measures 9 3/4" tall (from base to top of upright handle), 7 1/2" wide and 7 1/8" deep.

Japanese Satsuma vase with various scenes from different periods in Japanese history and one view with Chinese scholars or sages. The views are framed with a motif of flowers and fans. Bottom of the vase contains a name that is impressed in the clay. The top part of name is unreadable, the bottom contains the name Satsuma ware. Age: Taisho Period. Size: Diameter: 2.75"

Antique Japanese scroll painting, with an arrangement representing a bounty of good fortune. Fish top a bushel of rice and are tied with roped straw in an auspicious presentation meant to bring in a bounty of fortune. Adding to it, three of the Lucky Gods make an appearance in miniature, treating the decoration as if it were a boat or their ship of good luck. Sumi ink on silk. Dates from 18th century.

Unusual 19th century netsuke of a cloth Daruma doll with wonderful inquisitive face and a shaped opening on the back with anabori (cavern carving) of a palace with a procession of scholars crossing a bridge and pavilions in the back. The cavern is carved unusually deep, and pavilions in the back are very well defined, almost impossible to photograph properly. Excellent face with horn inlaid convex eyes, beautiful stippling defining the texture of its cloth body, wonderful functional shape...

Japanese iron tsuba, or hand guard for a samurai's sword, with cast motifs of waves inlaid with gold and silver, the patina indicates age and wear from use.

Antique Japanese light weight Jingasa (Samurai hat) made with a basketweave bamboo and paper coated in black and red lacquer. The front of the hat has the gilt paulownia leaf mon (family crest) with the top decorated with a three prong yari forming a trident.

Antique Japanese hirado ware white vase with base. The vase is a beautiful white color. The simple shape is accented with dragon shaped handles on either side. The work is done by the kiln of Kanzan Denshichi (1821-1890). Kanzan was trained in Koto ware in Shiga by the order of Ii Naosuke. Later in 1871 Kanzan establishes an imperial kiln producing table ware for the Imperial Household. Signatures on the bottom reads: Dai Nippon Kanzan Sei, (trans: Produced by Kanzan of Dai Nipppon)...

19th century wooden netsuke of a hunter with a flintlock rifle trapped by an enormous scrotum of a badger. Uncommon topic in netsuke, excellent crisp carving, superb faces - distressed one of the hunter and cold smiling one of the badger, wonderful hairwork, great detailing of the hands of the hunter and veins on the scrotum, beautiful patina. Signed JURAKU on the foot of the hunter - the artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 477, number 962). Length 1 1/2 inches.

This old Japanese Noh theater mask has the expressive face of an old man. The mask is carved from paulownia wood and dates to middle Edo period, around 1750. The patina is wonderful.

This is a beautifully detailed Japanese lacquer screen with exceptional quality Maki-e work used to highlight the details. The front depicts a landscape shore scene, complete with a crab stretching upward, a monkey after the fruit in the tree, and the makers signature. The rear has 3 cranes in flight.

Japanese Edo Period carved wooden mini KANNON and attendants. The carved and painted KANNON, attendants (8) and hillside are beautifully done with great detail and expression. The hillside measures 9 1/2" tall, 9" wide and 7" deep. There are suppose to be 12 attendants but only 8 remain.

An antique Japanese Katana Sword box made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware. Front hinged door secures a long drawer that held a Katana for safe keeping. Of particular interest is the door stop on the lock plate featuring a stylized Fundo weight. This would suggest that the previous owner was in the profession responsible for coin exchange, weights and measures...

An antique Japanese Chobako (merchant chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware. Large upper drawer with two hinged doors that hides and secures 6 small drawers where valuables were kept. Side handles were used for carrying this tansu from place to place.

A crusty wood fired Bizen dish with looping handle, one hemisphere rounded, the other pinched as if for pouring, dating from the Edo period enclosed in an ancient custom fit lacquered Kiri-wood box. It is 23.5 x 22cm x 12.5 cm (roughly 9 inches diameter, 5 inches tall) and is in surprisingly excellent overall condition, with a few nicks to the edge of the foot consistent with age. An antique Japanese Zeni Bako (money safe) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Top cover is secured with an iron lock and serves a dual purpose. When closed, a slot is apparent for dropping coins into the box. When opened, the retrieval of the coins becomes convenient as well as keeping safe and storing paper money, IOUs, and financial bonds and certificates. A bottom drawer was often used to store writing paper, writing brushes and an inkstone...

Antique Japanese mokugyo, fish bell, carved of keyaki (zelkova, elm) wood with traces of red and white lacquer. This wooden temple bell was used by Buddhist priest during religious ceremonies and chants. Laid on it's side on a pillow, the bell was struck to a rhythm to match the cadence of the chant. The carving on the bell is of two fish embracing a pearl, a symbol of unity. The fish themselves symbolize wakefulness, in this case to remind the chanters to focus on the sutra.

Antique Japanese pair of armor boxes. Made of kiri (paulownia) wood and lacquered a deep reddish orange color with black details. Iron hardware including carrying handles. The crest is that of two crossing hawk feathers (Takanoha), possibly the crest of the Abe Clan. The Abe Clan (安倍氏, Abe-shi) was a samurai family that was close to the Tokugawa shogunate.

Japanese early 20th century cloisonne vase by the Tamura Cloisonne Company. The blue colored vase has a large and beautiful yellow rose blossom. the silver toned metal rims appear to be chrome.
