18th to early 19th century iron Japanese sword tsuba worked in low relief with an ama-ryu (rain dragon) in flight among pouring rain and wispy clouds. Clever and elegant design in Japanese taste, gilded highlights, in great condition. Height 2.86 inches.

Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of a man carrying a cloth bundle on its back with a boy’s head sticking out of it, while a huge dragonfly landed on the father’s sleeve. Wood is lacquered in Negoro style - red lacquer over black, so as it wears the black starts showing, and then the wood. The fronts of his feet have been reattached, repair is done very well, the figure stands on its own. Excellent faces, beautifully worn, really nice feel of age to the piece. Height 2 3/16 inches.

A rare and beautiful Japanese KOZUKA KNIFE HANDLE of a by-knife that is part of a sword mounting. It is kept in a slot on the reverse side of a Kattana Scabbard, often with a matching Kogai. It depicts the Gatekeepers arm-wrestling, EDO PERIOD (1603-1868). Shakudo alloy with GOLD decorated appliqué of the Guardian Kings AGYO and UNGYO. Size: 9.5 cm x 1.4 cm.

This tall, unusual stand is decorated with cobalt blue under the glaze and with overglaze enamels in iron-red, green, and gold. It has four large cutouts on the sides, revealing the interior that is glazed white. The cut edges of the open cartouches are dressed with gilt enamel as is also the top rim. The footrim is unglazed, exposing the white porcelain body. It is in very good condition with no repairs or damages, with only minor wear to the enamels.

Amida (Amitabha) - "The Buddha of Immeasurable Light and Life” - is the principal buddha in Pure Land Buddhism. 19th century netsuke of a standing Chinese female Immortal holding a fan in one hand and a branch of the Fungus of Immortality in the other. Very nicely carved, great face, elaborate hair arrangement, polychrome decoration with expected wear, beautiful patina. Height 2 9/16 inches.

The only differences between this matching pair of Japanese woman's hair combs are the very slight details in the hand-painted design and the size and spacing of the tines. The finely detailed lacquer design was painted in 3 shades of gold. Unfortunately the minute details, flower petals and tree knots are hard to see in the photos.

Pair Japanese Nabeshima Porcelain Dishes with underglaze Blue Thistle with Red flowers, Ca. 1890, Meiji period, 4 5/8" diameter, 1 1/4" high, very thin crispy porcelain dishes with delicately decorated with Thistle plants, with fine exact comb high feet and double Peony floral sprays on 2 sides under the dish. One(1) dish is glued together lower area about 2 1/2" long on the wind swept Thistle decorated area. The other dish is in fine condition without any damages.
