A Fukagawa five 7/8 inch bread plate. Iris decoration from Chuji Fukagawa's own 19th century design book. Blue underglaze and red, yellow and gold overglaze enamel decoration. Mt Fuji mark in underglaze blue inside the foot ring. Late Meiji or early Taisho. Good condition. Priced for each bread plate, there were six available when listed. 19th century Japanese Satsuma ware one half of a belt buckle decorated with cranes among flowers and leaves. Metal back stamped with the mon (crest) of the Shimazu samurai clan - they were daimyō (great lords) of the Satsuma han, which spread over Satsuma, Ōsumi and Hyūga provinces. This is a finely carved and lacquered wood Ojime in the form of a Double-Sided Kyogen (Japanese Theater) character masks depicting Okina on one side and Buaku on the reverse. The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. It is not signed, but is attributed to Hozan, a netsuke-shi who worked in wood with metals and lacquer accents in Early 19th century. He was a pupil of Hojitsu. Ojime measures 0.66 inches (1.6cm) in diameter, and 0.74 inches (1.8cm) tall...
