This is a beautiful large Cloisonne vase from Japan. Besides the wire and wireless designs in the bamboo and rooster, the color of the ground color changes from top down to the bottom. The vase stands 12 inches tall and is not quite 6 inches wide. It has on minor flaw that could be factory and it is shown in the last image. It is an odd short line, that is difficult to see in the enamel under the bamboo leaves. A great piece that was probably made by Gonda or Ando.

Japanese tall woven bamboo ikebana basket by the artist, Torii Hounsai. Elegant and unusual, this basket incorporates an orderly pattern at it's narrow base which becomes more wild toward the top, ending with a subtle asymmetry while maintaining it's sense of balance. Signed on the bottom 峯雲斎 Hо̄unsai. The artist's full name is Torii Hounsai (鳥居峯雲斎). Hounsai was active in Aichi Prefecture during the late Taisho/early Showa era 1920-1930...

Antique Japanese kannon biraki isho tansu (chest on chest with hinged doors for storing clothing). Made with all keyaki (elm) wood on the front. Sugi (cryptomeria) wood on the sides and top. It is designed with a great relief, showing an Ebisu. Ebisu, also transliterated Yebisu or called Hiruko or Kotoshiro-nushi-no-kami, is the Japanese god of fishermen, luck, and workingmen, as well as the guardian of the health of small children. He is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune, and the only one of the seven to originate purely from Japan without any Hindu or Chinese influence...

Miniature shrine with inside the sitting figure of Dainichi Nyorai. He sits on a lotus base, in front of an open-worked halo. Written on top, probably in red lacquer, underneath a thick layer of soot: Dainichi. Height 2 ¾ in. (6.8 cm). Japan, Edo period, 19th century. Outside: some tiny lacquer chips at edges of one door. Inside: some of the outer lotus petals missing, otherwise very good condition. Very finely carved.

An antique Japanese large Jizai (hearth hook) used above an Irori (fire hearth) and hung beneath the house rafter to support a rope and hook or a Jizai Kagi (adjustable hook) to hold a kettle or large teapot above the burning charcoal. An excellent bronze sculpture of a mantled eagle was finely cast.
By vibrant posture, the fierce bird spreads her wings when resting on the rock peak.
The wings and the base were detachable.

This miniature Japanese blue and white Imari vase is an early 20th century product. It is 3 ¾” high and 2 ¼” at its widest part. A fan shaped design painted with a landscape and tree adorn the neck of the vase. Morning glory, chrysanthemum and unknown flowers are painted on the body. Though small, the painting is very well presented. Aside from two cracks, one on the bottom and one on the side of the fan due to firing, it is in excellent condition.

What an atmosphere, this is what the Japanese call wabi-sabi. Full cylinder shaped (Tsutsu) tea bowl with a rounded brim, made of light, very coarse, unrefined Hagi clay. The expertly thrown body was roughly trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part. The rather high foot is traditionally cut in one place (so called 'wari kodai').

Our chawan was covered with an opaque glaze, which is a mixture of ash and feldspat...

The mask is of dark brown russet lacquer finish and the interior is smoothed lacquered red. The high jaw his two protrusion hooks for strapping the cords, underneath the chin is a vent hole. The mask is fitted with yodare kare of three row of false scale lace and blue silk.
