The set is consisted of twelve 950 silver place card holders made by K. Uyeda. K. Uyeda shop (Uyeda Shoten, 植田商店) was founded in 1884 by Uyeda Kichigoro (植田吉五郎) and is one of the oldest established Japanese silversmiths that is still in business today. Beautiful matte surface with wonderful patina, great feel of age, very pleasant to the touch. Magatama are curved beads which first appeared in Japan during the Jomon period (circa 1000 BCE), and in Korea during the Prehistoric period, mainly in the Bronze Age and Neolithic...

This is a set of woman's tobacco case and pipe case which are made of deer skin and has fine katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) komon pattern. The motif is pine needle. It has beautiful clasp of green bean motif which shows prominent craftsmanship in this age. The set also has a pipe, but it seems that it is not an original one as it is shorter than the case. 19th century. In good condition except for some patina. Hotei was a historical Chinese monk allegedly living in Wuyue kingdom in the 10th century and known for his jolly nature and love of children, he is considered to be an incarnation of Buddha Maitreya - the Buddha of the Future...

Rather unusual 19th century Japanese bronze scroll weight in a form of a chestnut. Clever design in Japanese taste, superb naturalistic modeling (see perfectly worked texture of the bottom), beautiful warm brown patina, beautiful gilding, pleasantly heavy. Old collection number in red on the underside. Wonderful piece in scholar’a taste. Length 1 5/16 inches.

Pair of 19th century Japanese sword menuki each depicting one closed and one open hozuki (Chinese lantern fruit). Fantastic work with great detailing. Differently colored patinas, gold inlaid spots, in perfect condition. Length 1.25 inches.

Late Meiji (1890s to 1912) boxwood netsuke of a seated monkey wearing a haori (short jacket) and trying to get to the head of a turtle as it inspects its carapace. Very unusual feature - himotoshi (cord opening) is formed by a removable peach that is part of the jacket design (see Enlargement 2). The subject is a reverse take on the legend of a turtle who heard that monkeys' livers were effective medicine, so it invited a monkey to his place in order to kill it...

An Arita Export porcelain dish decorated with a design based on a Ming Chinese Kraak plate. A pair of Ho-o birds amongst flowers and bursting pomegranates. Arita, circa 1690 - 1720. A similar dish is illustrated in the Shibata Collection, Kyushu Ceramic Museum, item 2495.

The border pattern shows a striking similarity to that used for V.O.C. orders produced at the Hikeoba and Sarugawa kilns. Circa 1680.

This is an authentic antique cloisonné enamel teapot from late 19th century Japan, made during the Meiji period. The teapot is of an inverted baluster shape and rests on a tall flared foot. It has a side handle, a long spout, and a domed lid with a chrysanthemum knob. The teapot is decorated with beautiful floral and butterfly motifs set against a turquoise and dark blue background...

Tip part of excavated ancient Japanese ritual phallic object called ‘Sekibo’ (lit. ‘Stone stick’) dated back to the Jomon period (ca. 14000-1000 BCE), attached with wooden stand with plaster inside of hole for stabilising. Total with stand: H 6 cm (2.36in), Sekibo itself: H 4.3 x 3 x 3 cm (1.69 x 1.18 x 1.18in). Cracks due to age as is. Slightly stained with its plaster at the bottom.

Japanese Meiji Period lacquered comb. The base of the comb is lacquered in gold and brown lacquer with hawk and pine design. The comb has wonderful carved design of a hawk on each side with small gold inlays. Unsigned. Minor rubbing on side edges. The comb measures 3 3/8" long by 1 5/8" tall.

18th century good size iron Japanese sword tsuba with decoration of paulownia leaves and flowers. Paulownia (kiri) is considered to be a Princess tree in Japan and was featured in the crest of the Toyotomi clan, led by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Wonderful design, gold highlights, in great condition. Interesting Arita Imari bowl, late Edo with scalloped rim and panels with reserves of flowers and figural scenes of an elderly teacher (?) surrounded by pupils, the reserves contoured in raised overglaze black. Brocade or diaper patterns in green, red, blue and gilt surrounding a stylized turtle in underglaze blue. A Fukagawa porcelain 9 1/2 inch dinner plate. Iris decoration from Chuji Fukagawa's own 19th century design book.
