Reddish-brown stoneware cup or bowl in the shape of a curled up lotus leave, resting on its stem. On the sides are two freshwater crabs climbing up, holding themselves on the veins of the leaf. Rather unusual 19th century button hook with silvered working end and cloisonne handle. Beautiful early cloisonne work with bands of different patterns, very probably was made in 1850s by Kaji Tsunekichi(1803–83) and looks almost like a catalog of patterns available at the time. Superb research piece, very pleasant matte finish, length of the handle 4 1/4 inches, total length 9 5/8 inches.
