Exceptional 19th Century Kyodai (Japanese Mirror Chest) beautifully constructed of very fine elm root. Japanese artisans ceased use of this expensive wood many years ago. This is an indigo dyeing cotton kimono used in Kyoto. As for this, cotton is spun by hand. This cotton is thick. This is dyed with a beautiful natural indigo plant. This indigo plant is a good indigo plant cultivated in Kyoto. This has a few stains to a chest and a collar, but does not stand out. This is the very good state that does not include damage. Beautiful, original woodblock print by ukiyo-e woodblock artist Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III (1786–1864). It is #22 in a series called Sono sugata Yukari no usushi-e, or "Stories of Reincarnated Beings". In the center of the print there is a young child, hunched forward as he eagerly listens to stories from an adult woman in a pink kimono with blue and grey sleeves, with a sheathed sword across her lap. A bowl of treats and a black lamp with flowers sits between them...

Japanese kura tansu (warehouse storage chest), made entirely of keyaki (elm) wood with very dramatic grain, thick keyaki side and back bracing, sliding panels with horizontal keyaki slats, right side has interior vertical row of 2 drawers and a hinged safe door which opens to yet another drawer, left side has interior shelf, Edo Period (c1850) Size: 23 1/4" high x 35 3/4" wide x 19" deep.

Antique Japanese two section mizuya (kitchen tansu), made with Hinoki (cypress) frame and Sugi (cryptomeria) sides with slats. The front features Persimmon wood panels with dramatic natural grain on its drawers. Other charming detailing includes mesh sliding doors with wood panels carved in floral motifs and decorative handles. Very attractive in design and functional for storage. This is tsutsugaki & handwriting fireman's cotton coat sashiko hanten coat of a splendid firefighter of the late Tokugawa period of the Edo era(1800-1867). A fight of kawanakajima is a design. It is a very high technique. A samurai (takeda shingen and uesugi kenshin) and a horse are drawn and are also the uplifting feeling and the excitement which seem to begin to move shortly. And there is sashiko stitch on the entire surface by hand. As for it, length is longish with 92cm...

This is an extremely fine Japanese Cloisonne vase with gold wire decorations.It measures just 3 1/2 inches tall so it is much finer and more exquisite in person. It is not signed. The fine workmanship on this piece was most likely done by Hayashi Kodenji as only an elite few could have ever created such a piece. The enamel colors and character of the bird also match Hayashi's work. Condition is excellent.

Antique Japanese wrought iron lantern with garden scenes. The lantern would have been placed in a temple where a candle would have been lit. The This lantern has four panels: the door: a bird, bamboo branch, tree, sun in the clouds. The lid is round with a handle for hanging. The base is round with three feet. The door latches closed. It measures 11" diameter, 8" tall. Taisho period, circa 1920.

Rare and beautiful Japanese antique isho tansu from the area of Sado Island, made all of kiri (paulownia) wood with original deep reddish brown lacquer finish and nice patina. This late 19th or early 20th century Japanese cloisonné vase is 11 3/4 inches high and 4 1/2 inches on the widest part. It depicts a rooster and hen in a bamboo grove. It is in excellent condition.

Onigawara, Roof Tile End Caps, of fired clay with motifs of Daikoku's Hammer and Tama, the Buddhist Jewel of Wisdom. H. 37cm(14.5") x W.56cm(22"0 x D.11cm(4.5"). Excellent condition from Meiji Era. The region of Ogi in west-central Japan was a well-known center of roof tile prodcution, and continues this trade today.

Antique Japanese stringed instrument called a koto, with a black lacquer box lined in fabric with floral motif and a cherry blossom crest in gilt lacquer on the lid. It is made from kiri wood (paulownia) and is covered in beautiful, intricate inlay of coral, mother of pearl, and shells in the forms of various flowers and birds.
