Silver designs are inlayed into the surface of this mid-century bronze by Honbo Keisen enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 29 cm (11-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition. It is signed in a silver cartouche on the base. Honbo Keisen (1910-1987) was born in Takaoka City, one of the main production centers of Bronze in Japan. Work by him is held in the Takaoka Municiap Museum.

Signed with an old hallmark of Matilde Poulat's Matl the repousse is in full regalia. Very well done with fine carving leaving a true feeling of the feathered bird. This is the larger sized version being 4 1/8thin. tall and 2.25in. wide. The weight is 36.5 grams heavy. This is a must have for the Matl collector and this one is an excellent example with the larger, full tail of 3 rings. No damage or flaws, just superb.

A pair of porcelain covered sauce tureens with under plates from a dessert service. Circa 1815-1820. Continental singing bird-in-cage automaton. Circa. 1900. Probably French or Swiss. Bird fashioned from real feathers, with glass eyes, and on a brass perch. Key-wind mechanism inside base of cage causes bird to sing various bird songs, while moving beak and turning head. Some loss to bird’s feathers. Musical movement is operational but sometimes hesitates, requiring a slight titling action to restore it, so probably requires some adjustment. Size: 12.5” ht.

Another Margot van Voorhies Carr masterpiece properly hallmarked Margot de Taxco and without eagle sixteen as her very earliest work had no eagle and sometimes eagle 1. This is a very early design #5161. This example is one of the finest I have found. It is extra large weighing 90 grams heavy and is taller than most at 1.5in. tall.
