In vibrant shades of blue on a black background, this painting by Chinese folk artist Luo Zhi Jiang has a sophisticated, dream-like quality that seems worlds away from the painter’s rural home base in Huxian County, Shaanxi Province. Luo Zhi Jiang is one of the few Chinese so-called “peasant painters” to establish a reputation abroad. We first met the artist at the Huxian Painting Community in the early 1990s and were struck by his vision and talent...

This elaborate silver Miao headband would be worn by a woman for festival. First a piece of fabric would be tied around the womans head to protect her from the sharp edges of the metal. The headband would make a soft pleasing sound as the woman moved her head. The man on horseback and flowers are a reference to the Miao myth of bringing light into the world. The headband is approx 20 inches long.

The document goes on to state tha...
Here is a simple yet very attractive chawan (tea bowl). It is made in the Raku style of pottery, a tradition created in 16th century Kyoto by a potter named Chojiro, under the patronage of Sen no Rikyu, a Zen monk who established the principles of the Japanese tea ceremony. This vessel presents some of the qualities that the first Raku vessels had, with its apparent simplicity and absence of decoration and distinction, as it is not signed...
This splendid chawan (tea bowl) has a very enchanting ebon robe. The smooth, glistening glaze runs generously to the kodai (foot) where it presents a magnificent crown of black pearls. The color of the bowl will offer a spectacular contrast to the emerald tea it contains. Slightly hefty in the hand, this strong vessel is an ideal companion for more casual tea drinking.
The bowl was made by a Kyoto potter named Yasuda Shigeo, born in 1929...
This chawan (tea bowl) presents a very elegant shape and delicate shades of blue. The fine crackles of the vitrified glaze quietly underline the exquisiteness of the vessel, while the kodai (foot) seems bathed in a pristine sea; quite a heavenly microcosm.
The bowl was made by a potter named Kato Tozaburo a 31st generation potter from the town of Seto. Seto is one of the cradles of Japanese pottery, and the name Kato has been associated with the Seto ware tradition for about 700 years...

The fob is ¾” square and 1 7/16 high with the bail standing on its corner.
A very well executed Ming stone weight depicting a strange youth guiding a mythical beast. The stone itself is unusual in that is very hard and veined with two colors. A very unique piece and a true work of art. It is my understanding that these weights were used for pressing paper. Size: Base. 28.3 x 28.3cm. H. 14.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Some minor old chips around the edges and the horn on the animal might have been filed a little long ago.
