Demanding and difficult, onix negro (black onyx) is a technique by which the classic art of stone inlay is reversed; instead of setting stone within a silver frame, it is now silver shapes that are placed in a flat piece of black onyx. Devised by the Los Castillo at the beginning of the 1950s, onix negro was practiced by a few other maestros as well with results that are definitely different and can be quite impressive...

An early, pre-1948 Matl-esque silver, amethyst and turquoise ring, this piece is signed by one of Matilde's contemporaries whose emulations of her designs I came to appreciate for their craftsmanship and beauty of the stones used. This is also a more rare to find variation, having a round face with a deep channel separating the amethyst from the turquoise cabs. An Art Deco 14k 18k diamonds engagement ring from the 1920s. This size 8 ring has nice Art Deco style and it features a central 3 point diamond flanked by two shoulder single point diamonds on an 18k white gold setting. The setting measures 3/4 x 3/16" across (from raised shoulder to raised shoulder) and this ring weighs 1.2 grams. When you look up Art Nouveau in the dictionary, the picture of this beauty of a pendant should be there as an illustration of Art Nouveau. It is very versatile, because it is wearable as it was originally meant to be a watch fob or a pendant. The center flower is decorated by an approximately 0.05Ct diamond. The diameter of the pendant is 1 ¼”and the height with the large bail is 1 ¾”.
