Huge, meticulously worked, with such detail and rich presence this Mexican Deco sterling silver bird of paradise is one of my absolutely favorite brooch designs. I have to admit that I really love brooches - I seek them out and try to find the best examples for One Good Eye Silver and it doesn't matter to me if they are "in" or not at the specific point in time. Brooches are classy; they can be delicate and romantic; and they can be bold and beautiful...

Vintage 1940s Hector Aguilar silver repousse floral brooch in what I believe to be a squash blossom design which might even have been created by Valentin Vidaurreta. There are several variations of the motif that can be found in various sizes and weights - during the short period in the 1940s when Coro had their jewelry made in Aguilar's workshop due to the war restrictions, brooches like this albeit lighter were also made for the American market and stamped with Coro's Mexican hallmark...

Big and beautifully aged this floral sterling silver Hector Aguilar brooch is representative of the 1940s' love affair with all motifs from nature. The flower is here layered, with deep hand-chased details in the petals and foliage, a strong curving stem and cluster of small beads right at its center. I love the way the bloom is wide open, its face turned to the sun, taking in light and heat and turning it to color, aromas and beauty for our visual enjoyment...

Early, heavy, wrought in fine purity .980 silver the stupendous chain in this pendant necklace is obviously based on Hector Aguilar's "v" link design. Bearing simply a raised mark for Taxco and the metal content hallmark, it is without any doubt comparable to the renowned maestro's original both in heft as well as in level of craftsmanship and quality of materials used. Its deep and careful hand-chased details reflect the warmly ornamentation on the locket pendant I have paired it with...

Very nice size, measuring 2 5/8 wide and 2 1/8" high, good weight. Stamped 980 on back, with Made in Mexico, no maker's mark. Likely Taxco work, and the 980 silver standard was used in earlier works, prior to 1950. The face mask depicts a warrior with headdress, ear spools, and facial adornment, a pre-columbian image often found in Mexican art and jewelry. Has visible tarnish, especially in recessed areas, and shows wear and abrasions to silver surface...

Tulip Buds 468 was designed by Margot Van Voorhies while married to Antonio Castillo at their Taller Los Castillo. The flow of the leaf around the bud, the heft of the silver giving depth and dimension to each link is exactly why this design 468 is so desired. Built on an angle to see each link at it's best and made strong with rivets hold the repousse together for a test of time. No damage or repairs to either the bracelet or the necklace. There are reflections on some of the buds of my camera ...
