Based in Mexico City Plateria FarFan created some of the most impressive and well-made collar necklaces, many in the multi-row "mesh" style and others in puzzle “Cleopatra style” designs. The necklace presented here is one of the latter, a pretty handsome one at that and a favorite of mine for the comfortable, just-at-home way in lies around the neck...

Fred Davis signed shields is an iconic design with this one being the largest size at 1.25 inches tall with most of that height being big stones. Eighteen inches of length provide a roomy fit. The weight is 166 grams of quality. This design is published in the books by Penny Morrill on Mexican Silver. The condition is without damage or repairs. Please note that the pictures are reflecting glare on the stones. There are no striations that come to the surface...

This is a grand Mexico City early repousse necklace that is 19in. long with veined leaves moving around the neckline. The central drop is 2.75in. across and is built in layers that build to the large amethyst stone in the center. The stone is without damage or chips. There is glare in some pictures on the stone. Please look at all pictures. The leaves measure 2in. long. Marked as shown with silver Mexico this workmanship is from the same folk background that Matilde Poulat made so famous...

Dashing early modernist Mexican silver and amethyst earrings with the signature of the Los Ballesteros workshop, this set is a variation on the "clamshell" type of jewelry that was so popular with modernist Taxco maestros in the mid- to later 1940s...

Classy Mexican Deco silver and amethyst brooch signed by Fred Davis, there is something about the sculpturality of this piece that makes me think it might be a Valentin Vidaurreta design. It is not just the specific shape the amethyst flowers have been carved in that can be seen in signed Vidaurreta jewelry, it is mostly the bewitching rotundness of the silver bud that makes me think so...

From a private collection, a fabulous sterling and tortoise belt buckle by William Stratling. It measures 3" by 1 3/4" and weighs 43 grams. It is in beautiful original condition. A belt buckle with this same silver and tortoise combination is featured on page 56 of the book MEXICAN SILVER by Morrill and Berk. Appropriately signed with the last Spratling mark and the eagle 30. An important and exquisite piece for the Spratling collector.

One of my favorite sub-genres in the world of vintage Mexican silver jewelry includes those early Deco repousse brooches wrought in the usually referred to as the “Mexico City style”, the most famous proponent of which is, undoubtedly, Matilde Poulat. Quite often anonymous, as in our case, these pieces can be fascinatingly weird, at times even bordering on the surreal...

A stunning Art Deco yellow crystal sterling silver buckle design bangle bracelet from around 1920. This vintage beauty shouts Deco and it has the same silver tooling and buckle clasp as seen on signed DIAMONBAR bracelets by Wachenheimer Bros of Rhode Island (1905-1933) and this is probably an early example. The buckle itself has white rhinestones, the sides are finely and ornately engraved, the interior is cut-out and it is stamped only STERLING...

Sublime is not an exaggerated description for the Antonio Pineda crescents and shells necklace presented here. This is the second necklace of this design I have been lucky to come upon this year and I am sure it will not stay with me too long either. Antonio's design flexibility, his ability to create magnificent jewelry in more than one styles is phenomenal and even though he is primarily known as a modernist, in our case he imaginatively navigates the waters of a more classic index...

Matilde Poulat's jewels are one of the most difficult from the Mexican Silver Renaissance to find today. This signed necklace shows the early MATL mark which was the name of her Taller. It boasts a wearable length is 17in and a weight of 171 grams heavy. The drop is 4.75in. across and 4.25in. tall at the highest point. The most dramatic of Matl's is seen with the double strand of fancy chain. A beautiful drape that is rarely found. No damage as was lovingly cared for, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!

A true maestro when it comes to combining silver with faceted, brilliant gems Enrique Ledesma is the creator of this modernist Mexican hinged bangle bracelet. Ledesma set three color-change sapphires against a glistening sterling frame here but I have also had one or two similar pieces in which the silver had been oxidized. Held in place with prongs, the stones are open-backed allowing the light to play its luminous games and coax different colors out of the stones...

Rare and unusual sterling Modernist design necklace and bracelet by Salvador Teran. It is difficult to find his pieces and rare to find a matching necklace and bracelet. The necklace hangs 11 " long when fastened and on the neck. The spikey hanging ornament hangs 2 1/2" long and is 1 3/4" wide. It is constructed so that it can be removed from the necklace...
