Gendarme of course refers to the French policemans hat which is the same as Napoleons classic chapeau. High in the center with a gentle slope that finishes in a crisp point at the corners. Early American Chippendale tall chest, Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1760-1780. Size: 64 1/2 inches ht. x 45 3/8 inches wide x 23 1/2 inches deep. Figured walnut. This chest has three horizontally positioned top drawers above five finely graduated drawers, flanked with fluted quarter columns, and supported on ogee form bracket feet. Older replaced oval brass bail pulls. Excellent antique condition.

Antique Goyard Trunk, early 1900's, from the estate of noted Opera Soprano Geraldine Farrar (America, b. 1882; d. 1967). She had her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1906, and performed opposite Enrico Caruso in 1907 in the American premiere of Madame Butterfly, and was later a celebrated Carmen. She retired from Opera in 1922. She was also a silent film star, debuting in Carmen directed by Cecil B. DeMille, starring in 13 films in her career...

Wonderful Louis Vuitton Hat Trunk in near mint condition dating from the 1920s. With still strong color and thick pile, this long rug measures 9'6" by 3'10". Likely Shirvan, though has characteristics of Gendji also. In good condition, with loss of one complete border on one end, and wear to other end, though sides are intact, with no holes, and almost no wear.
