Description: A black bowl from 12th Century was well molded and glazed uniquely. Applied in mottles with brown glaze on the interior and exterior against the black glaze, abstract firing effects was yielded with charming purplish blue when amid with brownish tint. Minute pinpoints incursions were spread dispersedly on the surface reflecting the dirt-like foggy hue(see pictures 9, 10, 11), and makes the mottles like different halos...

Golden bamboo spreads its leaf laden branches about the rim of this aka-e Kinsai bowl by Kyoto potter Takahashi Seizan and decorated by the famous painter Hashimoto Kansetsu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 6-1/2 inches (17 cm) square and in excellent condition. This is from the personal collection of painter Konoshima Keika (1892-1974). We will be offering more from his household in the near future...

These two snuff bottles are Peking glass, created to look like gemstone, one jade, one agate. Both measure 2 3/4" high and have stoppers, but no spoon attached. (The darker stopper may be stone, as it has considerable inclusions and is heavy). Both are well done, and give the appearance of stone. The "jade" bottle has a very soft sheen, similar to what actual jade would look like, and has a small foot. Both in good condition, the jade one with a slight chip on the lip...

Fabulous carved florals rise in vibrant color off the surface of this yellow glazed vase by Kato Keizan II enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 31 cm (12-1/2 inches) tall, 24 cm (9-1/2 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.
Kato Keizan I (1886-1963) was born in Tajimi city, Gifu, a pottery center in its own right, however came to Kyoto to apprentice under Kiyomizu Rokubei IV...

Description: With at least 400 years' enduring age, this brushpot reflected the beautiful patination of restrained dark brownish luster. Huanghuali wood had always been a prestigious material used by noble people in Ming and Qing dynasty. This brushpot was made of Huanghuali in a plain and elegant shape. The removable board underneath was preserved as an original piece instead of a replaced one and covered the entire bottom as a typical style of Ming dynasty...

The character “Hiraku” Open (or to Open) in bold scratchy strokes by the infamous nun Murase Myodo. Open you mind, open the path to enlightenment, the path is open to all, but like this calligraphy work is not easy, it is dry and thorny and the gate must be passed. Ink on paper in a silk border with wood rollers. It is 24-1/2 x 48-1/2 inches (62 x 123.5 cm) and is in excellent condition...

Red silk ground fabric decorated with silver and gold paper wrapped thread, using the songket supplementary weft technique. The center field with stylized flower heads, ending in rows of triangles. Woven in two parts and sewn together lengthways. Condition: clean, wear to the metallic twine, only partially preserved. Holes, repaired splits and holes, wear, deterioration of the rims. Dimension: 170 cm x 113 cm.

The gist of the script is Taoist, something to the effect of: This is my life, I am neither overtly talented nor gifted with genius, like a sail boat alone tossed among the waves I drink freely of sake untouched (unfettered) by others seen only from a distance. Ink on paper in a the rough silk border preferred by Literati artists with exquisite turned ivory rollers enclosed in a period wooden box (the rollers will be changed for something suitable if exporting)...
