Of Janus form, with faces and bird beaks on opposing sides, this large food storage vessel is from the Chambri Lakes region, near the Sepik River in New Guinea. Formed of the local clay by the women, the decoration and paint was applied by the men, in honor of ancestral beings. Utilized to store the flour of the sago palm, the vessels were also used as currency in trading with other indigenous groups. Korean Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) painted portrait of a seated scholar official executed in ink and color on paper. At the center of the robe is a rank badge holding a crane, indicating the gentleman is a civil official. The calligraphy states the bearded official is 41 years old. The painting is bordered with white silk and framed (no glass). 19th century or possibly earlier. Framed size: 41 1/2"V x 25 3/4"H (painting size: 20 3/4"V x 19 7/8"H)...

A pear-shaped "Famille rose" porcelain teapot and cover with molded decoration of two rows of petals and applied lotus flowers and leaves, in between painted with cockerels, deers, fishes and egrets. Dating to the Yongzheng or early Qianlong period. Condition: good, some chips to the applied decoration (please look at the last four photos) spout with a tiny chip. Chinese Republic period baluster form porcelain vase decorated in famille rose enamels with three large bird and flower roundels spaced evenly around the shoulder. The roundels feature two birds, two ducks, and two quail set among bamboo and flowering plants. Large and heavy Chinese late Qing dynasty scholar's hardwood box (guanpixiang) suitable for holding documents, seals, ink sticks, and other desktop items. This form of furniture was originally constructed as a jewelry box for ladies, but was also used later as a scholar's box. A removable panel on the front lifts to reveal two narrow document trays at the top, five drawers in the mid-section, and one narrow document tray at the bottom...

Large Thai bronze Buddha head with serene face and downcast almond eyes, curled headdress, flaming usnisa, and elongated ears. The casting is thin, the patina is very nice, and there is typical corrosion and wear evident. Traces of gilt are visible in the usnisa and hair (see close up images).
