Very Rare LARGE Thai 13th - 15th Century Underglazed Bowl (Ex. Grahame Clarke Collection)
This superb large and extremely rare stoneware bowl was made during the 13th - 15th Century. It is "heavily-potted", coated in a white slip and decorated in underglaze iron, the design very similar to a smaller Vietnamese underglazed bowl we have from this period. Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 7.5". This is an example of "Yamagata-kei" tradition of Yamagata Prefecture. The artisan was Okazaki Shouichi, who was born in Showa 3 (1928) and passed away at the age of 67 on April 15th, 1995 (Heisei 7.) A lovely washer bowl or wan bowl with lotus petal motif on the exterior. PERIOD : Song Dynasty (12-13th Century). MEASUREMENT : 13 cm wide, 6 cm height. CONDITION : small frit to the foot rim, no cracks or hairlines and free from restorations
From Ibaden, Nigeria this traditional Yoruba cloth was woven by the men of the village. It was worn tied around the waist of the woman, and used as a baby carrier. This piece was brought back from Africa in 1961. Hand loomed of cotton fibers, it has a wonderful soft color and texture. It measures 10" wide and 68" long including fringe.
This is a lovely Chinese Kraak porcelain Delft-style dish bearing the lotus mark within the double circle; decorated with alternating panels of stylized flowers and a figure of a monkey in a fruit tree; the center reserve features a phoenix on a floral ground; minor chips to rim; diam: 10 _".
A breathtaking Koro in the shape of a roaring lion by Miyanaga Tozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box. This is one of the best pieces I have ever seen by this important artist. It is 25 cm (10 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
