Large early Matilde Poulat "MATL" cross c. 1945. It measures 3 3/4" long and 2 3/4" wide and is in beautiful original condition with all stones intact. The amethysts are deep purple and the coral a vibrant red. Signed with her early signature and registration number. This is an exceptional cross.

Magnificent sterling and onyx necklace by Antonio Pineda. The jagged shaped links are strung on a double silver chain and they all move. There is an interesting pattern in the front section of the necklace where some links have a cut out section and the facing link has a diamond shaped inset onyx.This spectacular necklace measures approximately 15" around in the inside ( cannot be exact as it curves) and is 1" wide in the front and the links taper to 1/2" in the back...

Wonderful sterling cross and rosary beads by Taxco silversmith Hector Aguilar. I believe this to be quite rare and it is pictured on page 153 of the book SILVER MASTERS OF MEXICO BY Penny Morrill. The cross is 2 3/4" long without the bail,3 1/8" with the bail. It is attached to the rosary beads which measure 15" when hanging on the neck. It does not have a clasp and slips over the head...

A striking and fascinating Art Moderne 970 silver pin by Antonio Pineda. The shapes and placement of the stones are intriguing. The black stripe of onyx is inlaid but the half sphere of onyx and the rectangular agate are set above the surface adding dimension. The pin measures 2 5/8" by 3/4", weighs 19 grams, and is in fine original condition. Signed for Antonio Pineda as shown. A very special Antonio piece.

Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 16.75". This is an example of the "Naruko-kei" tradition of Miyagi Prefecture. The artisan was Akiyama Tadao, born on November 7th, 1932 (Showa 17.) One of William Spratlings' most recognizable pieces is this Aztec figure pin with a large amethyst. Circa 1940, it is featured on page 39 of the book MEXICAN SILVER by Penny Morrill. Measuring 1 1/2" long and 1 1/8" wide, most of the surface of the pieces is the large square cabachon amethyst which measures 1"long and 5/8" wide. Rare first state impression of "Nihonbashi (Station 1) Morning Veil" from Ando Hiroshige's ((1797-1858) first series "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" published by Hoeido circa 1833-1834. The print depicts a daimyo and his attendants crossing the Nihon Bridge in the early morning hours. This is not a later edition or reproduction. A dragon rides in a swirl of movement atop this silver and damascened Koro incense burner by Chosa Yoshiyuki. The sides are decorated with images of plum and pine. The bottom is signed Yoshi-saku, and bears the stamp 900 delineating the silver content. It is 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) tall, 3-1/2 inches (9 cm) diameter and in fine condition, enclosed in a period heavy kiri-wood box.

A demure image of grace and youth; this is a fine full sized Bunraku theater puppet dating from the first half of the 20th century; one of two from a private collection we are currently offering. Oribe Green runs in a curtain over the pale yellow glaze of this Edo period andon-zara oil dish. It is unglazed on bottom, measuring 8 inches (20 cm) diameter and in excellent condition, enclosed in a custom kiri-wood box.

A rare and extraordinary brass cuff with repousse stylized fish motif by Hubert Harmon. The fish have a large cabachon onyx eye and their scales are three dimensional. Hubert Harmon set up a small workshop in Taxco around 1940. His designs are whimsical and unique. All of his work is highly valued and it is almost impossible to find. This cuff measures 3" wide and is 6" around in the inside with a 1 1/2" opening so 7 1/2" total. It is in fine original condition and weighs 98 grams...

A whimsical Bizen stoneware figural koro. A young man is depicted inebriated - sake barrel by his side (the hat cover and barrel form inokes the otherwise absent tanuki associated with sake and mischief.) A bakumatsu era (mid 19th century) Shishi Koro of dark red clay covered in a rich green glaze from the Banko kilns in Mie. It is 14 x 24 x 8 cm (9 x 5-1/2 x 3 inches) and is in fine condition but for one clawed toe which has been chipped. This squat style of facial expression was popular from the declining years of the Edo period into the early Meiji, and fits the date of this piece perfectly.

Japanese plique-a-jour cloisonne enamel vase densely decorated with a bouquet of flowers set against a celadon green background. Chrome rims. Dates from the Occupation period (1945-1960). Measures about 3 3/4"H x 3" diameter. Very good overall condition. There is a faint interior stress crack at the shoulder that cannot be felt (see enlargements 6 and 7). The neck is very slightly tilted.
