Moltenb ash tumbles over the sides of this lidded coffer by Fujioka Shuhei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Toko (Ceramic Box).   The shape is organic with a clefted-mesa likening to a Japanese garden stone.  Rather than a simple round separation, the artist has chosen a key shaped cut which adds a sense of the natural world, God does not work in straight lines so they say, and neither does Fujioka Sensei!

This large Haku-Enyu, crackled white salt fired chawan is by the master Kyoto potter; Iwabuchi Shigeya (1925-1993). This large and imposing Oribe mizusashi was made by long time Mino potter, Hayashi Shotaro. Thrown out of a fine Mino clay, much of the surface was cut away to create a surface of wonderful flat planes and rough areas of faceted clay which was then glaze in Hayashi's rich Oribe glaze. The surface shows a wonderful array of tonal variations with areas of deep greens and thinner areas showing almost to the buff of the clay...

Classic Hamada Shoji lugged vase measuring approximately 20.5cm high and just over 10cm wide, this vase is made of stoneware and then was covered in a thin wash over the surface. The vase was dipped at angles almost kakewake style in a rich dark temmoku which breaks to a rusty accent here and there and also in the classic Hamada nuka glaze which has a wonderful quality and various effects about the surface with the attached lugs adding a nice focal point to the form...
