A lot of drama on the undulating surface of this ash glazed Guinomi accented with deep shell impressions by Murakoshi Takuma enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Sake-nomi. This for a heavy drinker, quite large, perfect for Shochu (perhaps with a splash of water). The undulating dramatic form displaying square lug ears and with a gravity defying glass drip protruding from the rim is propped up on three shaky feet, I feel giddy just looking at it...

This piece I feel goes very well with the Tokkuri just listed, a guinomi showcasing the soft tones of the Shigaraki clay with its inclusions and imperfections, a smattering of ash inside spilling like sake over the rim in green, white and gray. It is by Furutani Taketoshi and comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shizen-yu Guinomi. The artist has taken the idea of the Tokkuri and turned it on its side; literally. He has thrown a bottle, then cut away one side, leaving a thin strip to serve as a handle. The bottom slightly dimpled and voila! A Katakuchi is born...

Gold nuggets gleam on the deep lavender and black surface of this organic form by Inayoshi Osamu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kurinuki Kinsai Mizusashi. Kinsai is literally gold color, and here the artist has embedded gold into the surface, allowing it to expand and bubble out in the heat of the firing process. This remarkable tea bowl is from the kilns of Yoshida Shuen (1940-1987)—an apprentice of Miwa Kyusetsu (1910-2012) who was awarded the status of Living National Treasure in 1983. It features a warm milky beige glaze with light umber accents and shows a bit of exposed clay on the kodai (foot) where the artists seal is located.
