Sweeping arcs filled with liquefied green ash cross this large flat platter by Murakoshi Takuma enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hai-yu Shinonome Sara. Shinonome is written East Cloud, and is a poetic term for Dawn, or clouds wavering in the early light of Dawn. Here he has brought the rim out to a razors edge, no easy feat for this rough clay. The vessel is 31 cm (over 12 inches) diameter and in perfect condition...

A wild ceramic sculpture in rich dark iron glaze by Takatsu Mio enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Soko ni Seisoku Suru (Living There). Mio is an amazing person, very intense when she works, very casual when she is not. She will happily take a hammer to a piece after months of work, if it does not meet her inner criteria, thus her production is quite low, but quality is extremely high...

Murakoshi Takuma is a jolly fellow, and loves to be in his cups. Therefore, he is quite good at making a cup which fits comfortably in a one’s hand, a cup you would not like to put down. This is a perfect example of that, a medium sized guinomi, smooth inside but wildly undulating out, covered in his signature Shunju glaze, a combination of Ash, Feldspar and Iron with occasional visions of untouched raw Shigaraki clay...

Medieval influenced cap jar with a rich galena style glaze over a medallion repeat design. Though galena influenced, this is a lead free glaze!

An ash glazed vase with elongated neck by Koyama Kiyoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Shizen-yu Tsurukubi Hanaire. It is 22.5 cm (9 inche) tall, 18.5 cm (7-1/4 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.
Koyama Kiyoko was born in Sasebo, Nagasaki in 1936. Following the second world war the family moved to Shiga prefecture, eventually settling in the pottery village of Shigaraki. She took a job as a ceramic painter's assistant at a young age...
