This nicely decorated Nezumi (grayish) Shino guinomi (sake cup) was made by Mino potter Sato Kazuji (1948~), who is noted for his Shino and Oribe style wares. While not well known outside of Japan, his work is popular there. It is 2 ¼” high and 2 ¾” in diameter. The artist’s signature is on the top of the original wood box; his mark is on the bottom of the sake cup. It is in excellent condition.

This finely fired tall guinomi (sake nomi) with numerous surface firing effects was made by Isezaki Koichiro (1974~), son of Living National Treasure Isezaki Jun. Koichiro studied with prominent American artist Jeff Shapiro and with Jun's most famous apprentice Kakurezaki Ryuichi. He is a very talented rising star and recently had one of his chawan exhibited at the prestigious show "About the Tea Ceremony" in the Tokyo Museum of Modern Art Craft Gallery...

two dragon year prints very very good condition embossed blue 34In 1976 a year of the dragon Haku Maki did this pair of dragon prints. the Dragon script flows easily in the print We suspect Maki may have used the same mixed media contraption to produce both prints. Blue one is 37/150 we have only seen one copy of each print: they must have all been snapped up by Year of the Dragon folk.
