The doll is 5 ½” to end of corn cob and another 1” to the end of the skirt. She has a sepia ink drawn face a brown (pate), the silk cap on the top of her head. Over that she has a hat with flowers. This doll is very interesting, she has a simple pigeon hole mouth and two buttons for eyes. Her clothing is kind of this and that but old. She has on a light blue polka dot skirt and simple blouse made to look important with lace and a pin and a headscarf over horse hair that makes for a very nice look. Antique black boy doll with an embroidered face, applied nose and a tiny straight mouth and teeth you almost can't see. He has lots of floss and thread hair skillfully sewn on. His very firm body makes me think he as a core piece of wood with cotton around it. The rest of him is firmly packed cotton. He has a forced sit and both his arms and legs have tiny fingers and toes...see pictures. He has on his original shirt but his pants are a great old replacement...

Lovely old cloth doll stuffed with rags, really solid and heavy in possibly an original dress. She is completely jointed, nicely constructed, old petticoat and pantaloons. She has dainty pointed feet, stitched defined thumb and fingers and the back of her head is covered with brown fabric that also looks original. Her face is embroiderer nicely with brown floss and you can tell she was made by a happy person. 23" tall and C.1890

What a great example of a folky big heavy homemade dog. His face is priceless, shoe button eyes sort of hanging there, a leather nose that dominates the lower half and no suggestion of a mouth. Somehow they eye doesn't notice that it is not there. He is made with a heavy wool twill that was mohair at one time. He has round wooden legs that have broken through the fabric at the top so now and then a little excelsior falls out...

This feed sack doll is made with two pieces of cloth, one for the front and one for the back of the doll. She has an ink drawn face, and ink hair in the back. If you look carefully at the back of her head a first attempt at drawing a face can be seen. Her body is a classic early recyling example. She is from Maine, is 15" tall and is circa 1920.

This really nice boy doll with great clothes has a finely embroidered face. His face has form with a protruding chin and nose, generous sized ears, string hair and a lovely wool red cap. His velvet jacket fits nicely, the navy blue wool knit knickers and black socks look good and show off the homemade shoes that have to be seen...they are really nice, worn but nice. He is 17" tall and has a forced sit. C. 1890

This very nice hand-carved wooden doll and some original paint on the face and shoulders. She has a very round head, deep-set eyes and a nose carved and protruding but still out of the one piece of wood. Her legs were inset and pegged in place. Now she is a wonderful fragment 10" tall and mounted on a professional frame. (There are a few very old worm holes, please see close-up picture.) Circa 1800-1830.

"Doll with all original repairs".I read this description somewhere along the way. It makes me smile and yet I know what was meant, the repairs are not recently done and that applies here. This dear little black doll came right out of a house in Tennessee. She has the best thread hair, embroidered face, button eyes, pinched raised nose and lots of little and not so little mends on her face. She is firmly packed with rags and cotton, how can I tell, she is very heavy and doesn't give much when you squeeze her. Rags are dense and heavy, cotton is lighter and can be pushed more easily into small places like arm and legs and feet and gives more when compressed. This is an early heavy rag stuffed cloth doll with ink drawn features and sew through the cloth yarn hair. The yarn is the early homespun single twist and is very nice. She is all hand sewn, jointed shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. She has several layers of socks, the top layer is a wonderful blue linen pair. She came with her under clothes and I added her skirt. She ha a mohair type of fabric that works really well for her salt and pepper hair. Her clothes are sewn on so I thing she is all original. This sweet little antique cloth doll is wearing black calico dress that might be original it fits her so well. She has embroidered eyes and a hint that she had an embroidered nose and probably a mouth. She has the great astrakhan hair that says she was made around 1890 and the dress is that era too. The construction and the hand sewing on this doll is amazing. The hands and feet have stitch defined fingers and toes. The features are drawn with watercolor paint.
