Antique firmly stuffed country rag doll with a pencil face. She has pointy little arms and feet pointing to the left (going to make a left turn) and attached legs so she sits nicely. She has on a blouse, pantaloons, petticoat with lace trim, black socks that are sewn on and a wonderful flannel skirt with red trim. She is 14" tall and circa 1880-1890.
This doll has a regal look and feel about her. Her body is black sateen and is very nicely constructed. The embroidered face is very nicely done with the whites of her eye very prominent with a nice black border around the white. Her nose is embroidered with black also but it is a blue black so it is visible. She has astrakhan hair that is nicely sewn on. She is stuffed fairly firmly with cotton and maybe rags. I was very surprised to find a Poppet doll dressed as a Native American. I looked up what tribes were in Kentucky and it turns out there were three or four. Shawnee, Cherokee, Chippewa and Chickasaw. So it is not surprising even in the first quarter of 1900 to have an Indigenous Poppet doll. She has on a wool skirt and a fine multicolored top. She has wooden rounded at the end arms and wooden legs covered with a gray wool leggings that have embroidery up the sides and leather shoes...
A very folky early rag doll with pencil face and a touch of blue in her eyes. Every thing is sewn on her and I do believe it has been that way a long time if not original. She has a little square head and no neck and straight across shoulders and short little arms, just the cutest! She has wide hips and hinged arms and legs. Her head is a little floppy front to back but a ribbon tied around her neck I think would remedy that. She is stuffed with cotton and rags and is quite heavy...
Yes, I think college professor and by the looks of his hair, probably not married. He is all original and has his clothes sewn on, is C. 1890-1910 and 15" tall.

This is a sweet little pencil face doll, packed firmly with cotton, is jointed at the shoulders and hips. She has put-together-clothes. She has a very nice onesie, the a early petticoat and the a yellow calico blouse and a calico trimmed apron. She is play with condition, but the only real condition issue is that she is missing the end of one hand. She is circa 1880-90 and is 14" tall.

This is a beautiful wax over Paper Mache doll with pupiless glass eyes. She has a beautiful face with some loss of paint and some repaint. She has a break at the back of her shoulder plate. The good news is she is 23" tall and has on a very nice but fragile period dress and pantaloons. Her face is beautiful and does not look repainted or damaged until you get close. She is from the 1830-40's and looks wonderful sitting in an early period chair. She is priced accordingly to her overall condition...

Here are two very nice paper doll dresses made with crepe paper and Dresden paper lace trim from the 1840's The 7" dress is exquisite with watercolor hand painted floral decoration. This dress has a partial unbleached paper backing that is all original. It has a slightly irregular hemline and a dark spot just above the hemline.
The smaller dress is 3 1/2" and has Dresden stars across the bodice. It has a paper back that is two fold to go over the paper dolls head...

This beautiful painted face doll with big almond shaped eyes, large protruding nose and tiny pursed lips with just a touch of pink, is a great example of a folk art naive cloth doll.
Black painted hair is scalloped around her face and touches her cute applied ears. The paint is all original. She has some crazing and loss of paint on her head but it isn't flaking and not very visible from the front. Her forearms and hands are painted the same as her face. One wrist has old cloth tape around it....

This small pencil drawn face doll is all cotton stuffed, hand sewn, wonderful clothes, little pigeon toed feet with worn black socks. Her dress is lined with lace trim, under that she has a blouse and petticoat. The close-up camera shot sees her face as lighter and the pencil drawing darker than it really is. This doll has a very soft worn kind of look. Her face is mended right down the middle and the is darkening just below her shoe button eyes but she still has a very nice sort of sad soft look. I realized I had her dress on backward when I started to photograph her. She has a really nice pocket that she has been sitting on all these years. She is 24" tall. She is stuffed with cotton that has settled so she sits nicely even though her legs are continuous with her body. She makes a gentle statement....
