Well I am not sure Mother Congress would recognize this doll unless she took off her dress. This doll has to have had many hundreds of hours of play. The dress is obviously not original but I am sure it is nicer than a lot of dresses she has worn. She is 18" tall, cotton stuffed, many stitches replaces but surprisingly no holes just a worn area at the tip of her right hand. She sure isn't a Sunday doll but she could use a few understanding friends!
Circa 1900...
This is a most unusual very appealing small doll very much the young lady, with a center seam face, applied ears and sewn on pelt hair. (Please look at the picture of the hair, I think it is deer pelt and is fashioned to look like arranged hair.) She has a drawn face with bead eyes. She is wearing a brown printed dress all hand sewn with a pocket on one side. She has on pantaloons, a slip, a petticoat, black socks and very worn leather doll shoes that are as early as she is...
This interesting cloth doll has a pencil face fashioned after a "Babyland" rag doll. The little girl receiving this doll must have been thrilled to have a doll looking like and expensive bought one. This face is a second face that has been there a long time. She has a sewn on bonnet that fringes her face. Her arms have been recovered at the same time her face was done, same material. She is cotton stuffed and sits nicely. Clothes old but not original. She is 19"tall and circa 1890-1900.
This very dear pensive blue ink drawn face doll is the quiet one. She is comforting and soft, her dress is a soft gray blue, her apron is old windowpane fabric with a touch of lace. She has a nice old onesie on underneath. There is nothing spectacular about her she is just nice. Sometimes we could all use a little bit of nice.
She is cotton stuffed has a hole in the toe of one foot other than that there is not much to know. She is hand sewn and even though she is not jointed she sits nicely...
All three bottle doll doorstops are old and have their own personality. Left to right 13", 15" and 11". They are all built over a bottle weighted with sand. The prices are L-R
Bottle doll on left is sold, $400 and $200
Just when I think I have seen it all along comes something different. This doll has a bottle for a body that has the shape of a flask. The bottle and her arms are a heavy twill with the arms having lots of mends. She has sock legs and a sewn on bonnet and embroidered face. She has been through a lot but she is very dear. I have had bottle doll doorstops but never a doll with a bottle body! She is 16" tall and is a real hoot. Circa 1900
This is a 23 " cloth doll that looks more like she is 17". It is funny with dolls, some look really big and large and aren't and then some like this one that just feel and look smaller than they are. She is nicely shaped body, she is shy and doesn't like to show her face. I finally got one picture that shows the pencil features, you can see her face much better in real life...
This big doll no nonsense painted face doll with kind eyes was made with a body and face that match. They are both strong looking, will withstand a lot and be a good companion for a little girl. She is the kindly auntie that can't be there all the time. She is stuffed firmly with rags with cotton stuffed arms and legs. The paint is more a water color than an oil paint. It is flat color and sinks into the fabric. Her lips are the only exception, they are painted with a bittersweet oil paint...
Kokeshi made by Takahashi Akinori at Takahashi Hashime Studio in Sendai in Miyagi Pref. The body has beautiful urushi design. In excellent condition. 20century.
H:37cm Diameter of the bottom:7.5cm
This nice little girl from next door would always play nice, share her dolls and offer you cookies and milk. She has watercolor hair, ink draw drawn face, cute little curvy body. She has been played with a lot and it shows on her feet and her hands. One side of her face is a little faded. Her great calico dress has fading on the front but still looks and fits her well. She is 14" tall and circa 1890-1910.
This antique straw stuffed doll had an embroidered nose, just traces left, ink painted eyes and eyebrows and stitched and painted mouth, both a mere shadow of itself. Her body is all original and as I tried taking off her clothes they had been on and not disrupted for a long time I decided not to pull them all off. I took pictures so I think you can see she is really okay and nice. She is stuffed with straw so she is crunchy sounding and not stuffed really firmly...
This is the tiniest Babyland rag doll that I have ever seen or owned. She has a dear little face with two white smudges that were rosy at one time. She has on a wonderful early calico dress with red trim that is not original to her and may be a little earlier than she is but looks really good on her. She has mitten hands, all original body with jointed arms and legs and knees. Her face is tied on, see pictures like all Babyland rag dolls have...
This antique boy doll is dressed in his Sunday best. It was tailor made for him and might be original as well as his great hat. He is sewn into the clothes. He has great striped socks. His face is a center seam one with button eyes and what is left of embroidered eye lashes. He has great ears that give him a lot of character. His arms and knees are jointed and his body bends some at the hips but he does have a bit of an awkward sit...
This antique wooden doll is hand carved and still has some original paint. The face is nicely carved, the body is painted a dark green and the legs and face have a having a dark patina. The head has black painted hair. He has a big hole in his middle that I think was a hole for a jigger pole. He/she I think was a doll first and then a jigger but I can't say for sure. The back of his head has lots of wear so that didn't happen while he was a jigger. He has a professional stand that was made for h...
Early cloth doll with a faded pencil face, a great heavy linen body and all hand sewn. She has stitched defined fingers and is jointed at her shoulders and hips. She has as found clothing that is very nice, but brings a smile to my face. Her dress is inside out and I didn't even realize until I started taking pictures. I know why some child did it because the lining is much more colorful that the soft cream calico dress. The line is a red check cotton with a blue check waist band. Her body is al...
This nice antique cloth doll has the eighteen hundreds straight red embroidered line for a mouth that allows her to have many or no emotions. She has two dots for a nose but the mother went the extra length to put stuffing under to give her a raised nose. She has really nicely embroidered eyes with little stitched eyelashes on the top lids. She has astrakhan trim hair that is firmly stitched on. She has jointed arms and the knees are stitched to bend so she sits easily. She is all hand sewn, her...
This is a very nice African American cloth man doll in suit and tie and homemade antique hat, (I added). This doll was in the collection of Lenon Holder Hoyte and was exhibited at Aunt Len's museum. This collection was sold a Sotheby's in December 16, 1994 and this doll was one of them. He is made with brown cotton and has astrakhan hair. His face is embroidered very nicely with silk floss. He is wearing a black and white check suit, a tan shirt that has discolored to yellow, and a red tie and a...
This little doll antique pencil face doll is made out of wonderful homespun linen. She has a sturdy body that is not jointed but sits after years of being plunked down. She is dressed in a flannel brown skirt and a flannel top with a drawstring at the neck. She has pantaloons that button to the top. She has a color and a lace bonnet and little black leather shoes. She is circa 1890 and is 15" tall.
This big folk art oil cloth doll has a lot going for her. She has heavy brush stroke painted face done by some no nonsense mother. She gave her a suggestion of curls around her face, no fussy curls here! She colored her lips a dark purple but definitely not bright red. Seeing that she is all oil cloth her body is very firm as well as her legs and arms. She has wear and some cracking to the paint but not through the oil cloth, which often happens. She has just a bit of flaking paint on the top of...
This is a very nicely made black stockinette doll with a sculpture face, applied nose and ears and embroidered eyes and mouth. She has applied hair made from a fine net fabric and sewn in place. She had really nice clothes with a blue dress, and colorful striped petticoat a lace slip and lace pantaloons. On her head she is wearing a black net bonnet. Her body is straw and cotton filled. She sits but it is a little bit of a forced sit. She is 16" tall and circa 1880.
A very nice spun cotton doll with a very clever way of dressing her. Her inner core is spun cotton and around that is a heavy piece of paper roll with a big of a flare so the skirt is wider at the bottom than at the waist. The use of the blanket stitch for the outline and trim she has a muff, with arms going into it and a bonnet on her head with a cloak covering her shoulders and coming to a point at the back of her skirt. She is just 6" tall and had bead eyes and a little red floss for her mout...
Folky hand made antique paper doll dresses about 6" tall. (They didn't come with a doll.) They are made with fancy paper and glue. I show the backs of the dresses and the fronts. There are four dresses, two jackets, one hat and one apron. They are the last quarter of the 1800's. I there are two dress that have partial tears on a arm. They are from the last quarter of the 1800's. Condition is used and scuffed and played with.
This late 19th C. stockinette doll has a lollipop head with an embroidered face that is more an suggestion of a face than a hard drawn face. Her face is open and kindly, her body is some what soft and comforting to the touch. Her clothes fit really nicely and her pantaloons and petticoat match. She is as found and her clothes feel and look like they have been on her a long time. The back of her head looks like she might have had more stitches to look like hair but only has a few now. This doll i...
Naïve but nicely painted face doll with great red curls around her face. She is 21" tall and her body has a very broad chest that narrows into a smaller waist and hardly any flare to her hips. She is jointed at the shoulders and at the hips. She is very firmly packed with cotton. She has reinforced stitches at her neck below her chin and then stitches at the back of her neck also. She sits nicely and she knows that she is pretty. Circa 1890.
She is ready for afternoon tea, dressed in white and looking very demure. She is substantial in height and weight. She is very well made and every bit hand sewn. Her face is painted on the fabric and very nicely done. Her eyes are big and blue. She has hair that is pinned on and she has many layers of underclothes. She has on rather heavy stockings and white leather shoes. She has a mend in her forehead that is darned like you would a sock. It is sort of quaint. She has dainty stitched defined h...
A very nice Babyland Rag doll with a softly faded face that gives her a sweet baby face. She is 21" tall. I have taken a picture of most of her body but the very top and her arms are not accessible. Whoever put on her dress has lots of determination. The cuffs on the sleeves are so tight I can't get it off without cutting it off. The dress is a is cream colored very fine cotton with dark blue polka dots, (there is a tear on the upper sleeve on her left arm.) Under her dress she has an antique sl...
Ruby is powerful looking with a wonderful shaped face and nose and chin. Her face is drawn with sepia ink. Her hair is also done with ink. The same ink and the same era in script is the name Ruby on the middle of her back. See picture. Her head is large and I have had a number of dolls with this shaped head both black and white cloth dolls. It makes me think that maybe this type of doll was shown in women's magazines in the 1880's with patterns and directions on how to make them. She has a very ...
Little Boy Blue, come blow your horn, The sheep’s in the meadow, the cow’s in the corn. Where is the boy who looks after the sheep? He’s under the haystack, fast asleep.
This is an uncut pattern for making a doll, Little Boy Blue. It is late 19th C. It is in very good unused condition but does have some age toning. The colors are crisp as is the fabric. It has been folded and put away for most if not all of its life. I show the front and the back. It would be lovely framed or actually mad...
This doll has a regal look and feel about her. Her body is black sateen and is very nicely constructed. The embroidered face is very nicely done with the whites of her eye very prominent with a nice black border around the white. Her nose is embroidered with black also but it is a blue black so it is visible. She has astrakhan hair that is nicely sewn on. She is stuffed fairly firmly with cotton and maybe rags. She is 23" tall and is dressed as I bought her. The dress is age appropriate and her ...
This black cloth doll is packed solid with cotton, has a very nice embroidered face, astrakhan hair, and a blue calico dress with over skirt of red. Her arms and legs are continuous but all bend easily after years of being played with. She is 19" tall and is circa 1890.
Just 11" tall with a great embroidered face this cloth doll has a lot going for her. She is all original. She has yarn hair, finely embroidered face with a stitch raised nose, and pouty little mouth.
Her clothes are all original and sewn on. She has black velvet shoes that show wear on the toes, (how does that happen!). She has silk stockings, bloomers, lace petticoat, blue dress with a self belt and lace around the neck. She is a cute and she can be. Circa 1900
Four little doll house dolls. Two are bisque with one having movable arms and the other with movable arms and legs. The tiniest doll of all a sweet little frozen Charlotte with a Merry Christmas ribbon wrapped in a figure 8 around her. This is not newly added it looks to be original. They came in this Lord and Taylor box and look to have been stored for a long time. The largest is 2 1/2" and the smallest 2". 3 very nice late 1800's little dolls.
The fourth doll (on the top in the group picture)...
A wonderful plain and simple antique black doll doorstop. This one is smaller than most and is made with a weighted can rather than a bottle. She is 10" tall and is just the right size to sit on a shelf or be used as a bookend. I like it when the stocking shows nice wear on the bottom and this one really does. See photo. She is great folk art! Circa 1920
Antique all rag stuffed stockinette black doll with a face that says she will tell no secrets. She has on what I believe to be her original clothes, a brown and tan check dress with red trim and a bandana apron over it. She has on a petticoat that maybe was a curtain and blue and white ticking underwear. Her face is very plain with shoe button eyes and applied knit fabric for a mouth. Her hair is real fur and is beautifully fitted to her head. She has attached arms and legs. She is really packed...

As found all hand sewn, sepia drawn face, forever clothes, (been on her forever) that are hand made and now in tones of brown. (Skirt has faded from blue to brown in the front.) I call these dolls, relics! They shouldn't be redressed in my opinion but enjoyed for what they are.
Under her apron, blouse and skirt are underclothes that look like they were all made by the same hand. Her cotton stuffed body has jointed arms and continuous legs that with a little persuasion allow her to sit. Her face...
Here is the description on the tag that came with this very nice pencil face doll.
"I am 21"tall and I boast a paper nose, (looks like early wallpaper). My features are pencil drawn and my body is cotton and hand sewn, as is my striped dress. Please notice my flowered hat,(Missing, now has an early stayed beige bonnet), and quilted petticoat. I was made in about 1880 and I have aged well! (ex Virginia Clark)
