Nice homemade linen boy doll with embroidered face, cute ears, black curly hair wearing a red one piece outfit with a sweater over it. The red wool suit is sewn on with I think was a good idea by this mother. He wouldn't still have it on right now if she hadn't. It is brimmed with velvet ribbon and the neck and on the homemade belt around his waist. He has woolen shoes on his feet that are also attached. Over this he has a charcoal wool sweater that keeps him warm...
A very nice early milliner doll with original paint, great long black curls behind the ears, wooden arms and legs with original paper trim in a black and beige fleur de lee. She has on a wrap silk blouse and a silk skirt, probably original but I am not sure. She has an small area on her head that the paint is chipped off. It looks like from a blow to the head not a flaking condition. There is some flaking on the paint on her lower legs. She has painted red shoes...
Very unusual painted face character doll with the best laughing eyes. So many dolls are either very pretty or have a very neutral face with a straight line for a mouth, this doll leaves nothing to the imagination, she is down right giddy. How cool is that! She is painted with oil paint on fabric with most of the fabric showing through, not from wear but the way she was painted. She had great painted copper colored hair that is painted in swirls. She has a chunky firmly stuffed with cotton body...
This is a wonderful antique boy cloth doll in his original dark green wool suit. A white shirt has been added underneath the jacket. He is cotton stuffed firmly but not rock hard. He bends a little for a half sitting position. His face is sepia ink drawn with nice detail. He also has ink drawn hair with ears at on both sides, the left ear being a little more distinct. He has a formed center seam face with a protruding nose and chin. His hands are wonderfully articulated...
If I were a little girl right now this is the doll that I would want as a best friend. She has an open happy face. It says I am kind and easy going and like to play nicely, no rough and tumble Tom boy here. She is 22" tall, stuffed with cotton just firm enough to feel good. She is all hand sewn linen with attached arms and legs as well as jointed elbows and knees with two lines of stitching across so they really bend nicely...see picture. She has on a 19th C. dress that fits her perfectly...
A black stockinette doll with a great face and gray astrakhan hair. She is a single layer stockinette (stocking) doll when most often they are doubled layer as the maker realizes the white cotton showing through the one layer is not really black anymore but gray. This was cleverly handled by making her hair gray also. She is big and has a chunky body firmly stuffed. Her arms and legs are jointed so she sits easily...
Antique all rag stuffed stockinette black doll with a face that says she will tell no secrets. She has on what I believe to be her original clothes, a brown and tan check dress with red trim and a bandana apron over it. She has on a petticoat that maybe was a curtain and blue and white ticking underwear. Her face is very plain with shoe button eyes and applied knit fabric for a mouth. Her hair is real fur and is beautifully fitted to her head. She has attached arms and legs...
