Beautiful saturated green interspersed with splotches of white attract the eye in the "spinach jade" band nestled in this 14k yellow gold "bamboo" ring. I am partial to band rings and I love everything bamboo, especially in jewelry, and here the two come together in a great piece. What I find particularly beautiful about the ring at hand is the thickness of the bamboo rims that hold the jade in place...

An early Mexico City (I will suggest) maestro, P. Ochoa must have been a contemporary of Matilde Poulat’s and M. Velazquez’s. His work, wrought in the same “Mexico City” style of repoussage which for me represents the country’s Arts and Crafts version in jewelry-making, is very rare to come upon but, I think, of the highest quality...

Handmade sterling silver box with a carved onyx face that is emblematic of the work of Fred Davis. Davis was the first person to promote Mexican folk art and jewelry, beginning work in Mexico City in the 1920's. This beautifully crafted box was probably made for cigarettes but would serve equally well for business cards or other small items. Hand hammer marks are intentionally visible on the inside with a smooth finish on the outside. The box measures 3 1 1/6" wide; 4 1/16" long and 5/16" tall...

A vintage modernist hand wrought sterling silver brooch with a textured design and a central prong set grey swirled stone.

Measures about 1 5/8" across. Unmarked.

Nice contrast of shiny and oxidized sterling. Reminds us a bit of a volcano, curves up towards the center. Heavy and solid. Rollover clasp holds securely.

Interesting find.

Here is an interesting white metal locket. It is engraved on the front in a stylized pattern, and plain on the back. The inside has some scratches in the metal. The photo rings and celluloid are not present, but perhaps it was used for a lock of hair or other momento – very popular back in the day. It measures 1-1/4” x 7/8" and the interesting paperclip chain is a bit over 22". The back has a few dark marks which might clean up. Generally, a handsome Edwardian or Victorian piece...

Here is a maple leave pin, consisting of plique a jour enamel in a silver setting. Antique plique a jour (translucent enamel) jewels are hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile and rare, and we believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely pin is highlighted with paste accent stones along the main leaf veins. The green plique is a very nice rich color. It seems to be missing one leaf...

A vintage large sterling silver Mid Century Modernist brooch by Ed Wiener in the shape of a five pointed star.

Has a rollover safety clasp that holds securely. There may be a slight bend on the long arm, may be original to the piece. Has some minor surface scratches and tarnish.

Fine craftsmanship. Great studio piece

How big does a piece of jewelry have to be before it qualifies to be called monumental? I think at 4.25'“ tall, this Mexican Deco butterfly brooch definitely fits the bill. Fauna- and flora-themed pieces are not rare within the world of vintage Mexican silver jewelry yet examples of astounding proportions like our brooch come far and in between. The semi-translucence of the stone is here enhanced by the variegated color which progresses from lucid white to sage green...

One of the few female designers of Mexico’s 20th c. Silver Renaissance that we know of, Erika Hult de Corral excelled in the creation of slick abstract and brutalist jewelry. She started creating her own work in Taxco’s “middle period” and continued being active in the post-1980 years as well. Big, bold and beautiful, the result of the artist’s few yet perfectly placed brushstrokes, the dove-shaped pendant at hand conveys that precious sense of elegant, unimpeded motion. Measuring 3”...

One of the best Taxco maestros, Gerardo Lopez must have worked for either the Los Castillo or Margot de Taxco, possibly even both, because for his jewelry he uses many of the designs that those two famous workshops also used. Lopez can be very creative at combining familiar motifs in completely new ways and when he designs his own, original jewelry, he quite often touches upon the brilliant. Comprised of slightly convex, highly oxidized links with figural silver overlay, the bracelet at hand loo...

With hallmarks dating 1948-1962, this Hector Aguilar bracelet is a book-piece design, shown in "Silver Masters of Mexico", by Penny C. Morrill.

It's a heavy hand-wrought piece, with five different Aztec metal symbols, giving the illusion that there are five separate panels. However, in fact there are two pieces which are joined together with a pin hinge. Closure is a pin on a chain. When closed this is an oval shape, so it won't spin around on the wrist.
