Huge, proud and absolutely secure in its exotic beauty, this is one of the biggest quetzal brooches I have seen in the realm of vintage Mexican silver jewelry. An irrefutable statement piece, I can imagine its first owner wearing it on a padded shoulder and basking in the light of the stream of compliments and jealous looks the bird generated...

Here is a fascinating stick pin, depicting a crescent moon – symbol of the female principal, intuition and new beginnings (and doesn’t that sound great!); an arrow – symbol of swiftness, Sagittarius, and sexual attraction (Cupid’s bow); and a 5-pointed star, symbolic of so many things we won’t even start! It is set with 11 turquoises (birthstone for December, believed to be good for healing and focus) and one seed pearl. The rose gold tests as 14kt...

An extra long vintage hammered sterling silver circles necklace from the American Studio Modernist jeweler, John Lewis.

Great hammered texture, circles are various sizes. Measures 38" long. Closes with his classic hook clasp. Marked Sterling and with the crossed JL mark of the artist.

Could be worn as a double strand necklace as pictured or as a belt.

Very nice condition, has some minor scratches and darkened patina. Nice hand wrought feel.

Classic John Lewis.

There are buckle bracelets and then, there are BUCKLE BRACELETS! And a spectacular Mexican Deco specimen of the latter I am proud to be presenting here. Honestly, however, all the aaahs and ooohs aside, this is one of the most glamorous mesh jewelry I have encountered even though its design elements are few and quite simple, if one thinks about it. Extra wide and finely woven, the sterling mesh is flexible and comfortably wraps around the wrist...

Here is an elegant and beautiful ring made from unmarked but tested 18k yellow gold and a pretty purplish-pink topaz. The ring is a size 8, and could be resized. The topaz is set in a modified buttercup setting, with a single golden leaf curling up to meet the stone on either side, and with delicate detail work in the gold. In excellent condition. Topaz is thought to be a healing and energizing stone, to bring forgiveness, and promote truth...

Fifteen years or so ago, we didn't know that the signature seen on this bracelet belonged to Avila de la Borda - until a fellow dealer came upon a jewelry box that showed both the hallmark and the workshop's full name. Though we still don't know much about it, we do know it was located in Mexico City and was probably making silverware in addition to jewelry. What we have, however, is examples of their very good workmanship and careful design...

Here is a show-stopping charm bracelet! It has 20 charms. 11 are karat gold, the others are gold fill except (of course) the coral elephant and the silver enameled donkey. Check out the photos – there is a wild variety, from tools to musical instruments, to a gun (a pistol?). There are a few rings where there apparently used to be charms – perfect places to add your own. The charms are hung on a modified paperclip chain marked 14k gold. 6 charms are articulated...

Dancing to the sound of an invisible mariachi band this flamboyant, vivacious Mexican Deco couple is a classic brooch design for the period. One can find several versions of it, quite often with turquoise, but most are smaller and not carefully cast. We usually see them separated from each other, still dancing but each one to their own, solo tune. This time, however, I would love them to stay together as they obviously were meant to be. Those whom the .....

Has a bark like texture in the front with openings and balls of various sizes.
