Circa mid-century, this modernist Mexican bib necklace is the work of "MGI". It's an Antonio Pineda design, and this piece matches the quality and construction perfectly. This necklace has seventeen polished onyx crescents, and it certainly makes a statement. A very substantial piece, weighing 131.3 grams. Very difficult to accurately measure the closed, wearable length, but I would say about 15"...

Here is a striking pendant out of the Arts & Crafts movement, which is enameled in an intense blue with patches of a much lighter blue. The dropper shades from a pale green through a lighter blue into the intense blue which echoes the color of the main part of the pendant. The back is marked “sterling silver”, and the dropper is marked silver. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-3/16, and is on a new 18” sterling chain. In very good condition overall...

The art of "metales casados" (mixed or married metals) was practiced by several Taxco workshops yet I think Victoria was its queen. Ana Maria Nunez de Brilanti combined copper, silver and brass not only to design exquisite jewelry but also hollowware of various kinds and decorative objects. In the necklace presented here she seems to be inspired by Egyptian Revival motifs which is not unusual for her - there are at least a couple of other parures she created that follow in that same path...

The coin tests as silver, most likely sterling (it can be hard to tell). On one side is the face of Friedrich (presumably) and his wife, a Maltese cross, and the words “FRIEDRICH * I * 1701 * WILHELM * II * 1901”, on the other side is an eagle with a crown above, and “DEUTSCHES REICH 1901 ZWEI MARK”. The rest is white metal. The swivel clasp has a mark, which looks like a plow. We haven’t been able to track it down...

This is an elegant pair of sterling silver master salt dishes by William Spratling. The dishes are 2 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches in diameter. Hand hammer marks show within the bottom of the bowls. All else is a smooth finish. The salts have Spratling's circular imprint used from 1933 - 1939. One dish has several small indentations that may be hammer marks from the original construction rather than damage. The salts are priced at $485...

Here is a sash buckle composed of swirling flowers and a flower bud. This is a mixed-metal piece. The silver plate shows some wear - yellow metal shows through at some of the high points. We believe the gold to be about 9kt, and it’s some type of plating. The buckle measures 3 x 2-1/2" and weighs in at 47.5 grams. Unmarked...

This heavily engraved silver pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California. It was one of the jewels from her childhood. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, which we believe is for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina...

Hairpin from the "Miao" peoples of southern China. Miao is the term the Chinese use to describe the four main ethnic minorities (Hmong, Hmu, Qo Xiong, and A-Hmao) who traditionally dwell in the mountains of southern China and areas of South-East Asia. The Miao are renowned for their silver jewelry, and today their modern products are widely available on the internet. Older pieces such as this are much scarcer due to Chinese export laws. This is an unusually ornate example with much silver wire ...

Serene in her deep meditative state, this vintage Gerardo Lopez Mexican silver repousse "goddess" brooch is undoubtedly inspired by the Los Castillo / Margot de Taxco "Thai dancers" parure. Though the necklace and bracelet of that design do come up from time to time, I have never seen a full-blown pin and I am excited for this discovery. Meticulously worked, the repoussage is detailed and crisp with the oxidation that has developed in the recesses rendering it more sculptural. To my eyes, the fi...
