A vintage heavy gauge sterling silver handmade bracelet with stamping and filing by Navajo master silversmith Thomas Curtis. He was considered among the top Navajo silversmiths, a master jeweler who pursued his art for over 50 years. He received many awards, among them Best in Class at the 1987 Santa Fe Indian Market and he was featured in the May 2003 issue of Arizona Highways. He made everything by hand including his die sets to stamp the silver...

A beautiful, unique, sterling silver overlay bracelet by Burle Marx. Roberto Burle Marx was a Brazilian landscape architect and jeweler. His brother, Haroldo Burle Marx, also a jeweler , was well-known for his carved stone free form designs, but his collaborations with his brother had a much more linear, abstract feel as in this piece. So I suspect this piece was either a collaboration of the brothers, or designed and made only by Roberto...

Here is a very Victorian grooming chatelaine from the 1800s. It has a Chinese fish motif at the top, and dangling from that are 3 implements: a tweezers, an ear-cleaning device, and a third implement for cleaning nails. (We saw a similar chatelaine on eBay that was advertised as a device for opium users, but we don’t think so! But as non-opium users, we could be wrong ….) It is unmarked but tests positive for silver, and with a patina consistent with age...

Here is a lovely little treasures from about 1780-1790; it was originally a shoe buckle but sometime in its history it was converted into a pin with a locking c-clasp. It’s wonderful that the jeweler who added it left the original buckle as well! So it can still be used as a clip or a brooch. It measures about 1 ¼” long by 1” wide, curved style as expected. It is unmarked for metal content but tests for European silver grade at 800...

Here is a fabulous fake! It is very convincing as a wedding ring and that’s why I bought it, so it would look like my fake husband loved me enough to get me a decent wedding ring, lol. It is a solitary paste stone in the middle set with four prongs on a simple decorative sterling silver metal band which could pass as white gold, at least I think that was the idea behind it...

Here is a coral garland (also referred to as “festoon” or “swag”) necklace consisting of 8 coral cabuchons of graduated lengths and sizes. The three longest drops are on rigid bars. The coral is a lovely dark ox-blood red, very hard to capture in photos. Coral was believed to prevent bad luck, and to be an aid to meditation. The length is 15-1/4” (but it would be easy to lengthen it), and the decorated portion is 4-1/4” x 2-1/8” at the longest point...

Question marks, whether straight or inverted, seem to have provided a fun, tongue-in-cheeck motif when Taxco maestros were designing earrings. I have seen them hanging off repousse semi-spheres, studded with turquoise cabs and even having cascabeles themselves. Yet this big, bold and beautiful set goes above and beyond its peers. Sculptural repoussage, tiny beading accents and oxidation combine here with gorgeous bezel-set amethyst cabs in a curvaceous, sexy pair of Mexican Deco earrings. Yet it...
