Here is a dramatic brooch featuring two cabochons of round black onyx. This is probably a piece of Victorian mourning jewelry, which frequently used black onyx. It has also been used to defend against negativity – so important in today’s world! Unmarked, but tests as 14 or 15 karat gold. It is centered by a baroque or freshwater pearl, and has two draping chains framing a central dogs-tooth pearl dangle. It is further decorated by swirls and ropes of gold...

I love antique Scottish "pebble" jewelry for their beautifully etched silverwork, the beauty and variety of the stone inlay, the saturated color of their cairngorm gems but most importantly, for their fiercely proud regional identity. Very often unsigned, the Victorian era pieces also serve as an early example of "celebrity influenced" consumption...

Streamlined bird brooch by the nonagenarian Modernist designer, Betty Cooke. Cooke is known for her minimal designs that successfully convey the form she aims for. This bird measures 4 inches wide and 2 inches from the bottom of the wood branch on which it sits to the top of the head. It was probably made in the 1960's. Ninety six year old Cooke is considered one of the icons of the Modernist studio jewelry movement. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

Here is one of our very favorite pieces, a striking Jugendstil (Germany and Austria’s Arts & Crafts era) pendant which is enameled in white and purple. It is made from 900 silver (sterling is 925), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which we added, as the original was missing) below an arc of milgrained metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g...

Here is a very pretty pin featuring an oval purple cabochon, possibly glass, possibly amethyst (it’s hard to get a reading on this stone), centered between two hammered silver leaves (very A&C), all on a very Art Nouveau framework. Marked “DEPOS” (probably meant to say “DEPOSE”, which translates roughly as “patented”), it is probably from Germany. There are two illegible marks, one on the C-clasp, and one on the back. It tests as silver, measures 1-3/4” x 3/4", and weighs 4.4 g...

Here is a classic jewel consisting of a circle of gold enameled in deep blue, with gold highlights. Through it is tied a 3-looped bow, decorated with tiny seed pearls, as are the bail and drop. There are a couple very minor flaws in the enamel that are not visible without magnification. It is stamped 15kt gold, and the gold has that lovely rich color we don't see any more...

Here is a sweet little pendant or charm made by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy, one of the famous French medalists. The design was usually made out of a heavy gold plate, but this one is 18kt rosy gold. Signed by Dropsy on the front, as is usual with French medals, it measures 1/2” in diameter (with the jump ring, 7/8”), and weighs 1.5g. In excellent condition, showing a gentle patina, and circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! We do lay-away...
