This smart pair of gold toned cufflinks was made by Lew Magram, SHIRTMAKER TO THE STARS in the 1950's. Each a copy of his famous shirt with tie including a red ruby-like glass cufflink on each cuff and label L.M. The shirt is textured gold and the tie and cuffs have a smooth surface. A fine and very heavy pair of 18K yellow gold cufflinks the in the “stirrup” (“etrier”) style popularized by Cartier in the late Art Deco period. The cufflinks are formed as sharply arched bands of open curb link chain. The hinged closing mechanism is hidden inside the cuff when the cufflinks are being worn. Each cufflink is fully hallmarked with French “tete d’aigle” hallmarks for 18K gold and with a master goldsmith’s mark.

The opals have much finer play of color than is typical of boulder opal, with a preponderance of blue and green that almost seems to glow from within. The contrast with the matte brown of the host matrix is very attractive. The opals are set collet-set in simple frames finished with ropetwist borders.
