A picture is worth a thousand words, they say, and in preparing to offer this fantastic find of mine, I am putting my trust in popular wisdom. When one has been dealing in vintage Mexican silver jewelry for as long a time as I have, one tends to hear that little "devil" in one's ear louder and louder, claiming that there is nothing new or exciting left to be encountered. Thankfully though, life and the old maestros of Taxco still keep some aces hidden up their sleeve...

This fabulous vintage Mexican Bracelet has a stunning design similar to the work of Antonio Pineda - it's signed with the initials AP but they differ from the more common Pineda hallmark and we're not sure who the artist is. It's a massive piece measuring 7" long, 1" wide and is quite heavy at 115.5 grams. Early style pin closure. No damage noted, just some light wear and tarnish and the Amethyst stones have the typical inclusions. A fantastic bracelet that any collector will love.

Dating in the 1940s, this massive sterling silver and azur-malachite "mozaico Azteca" inlay pendant necklace is signed by Taxco maestro Jose Anton. I am more used to Anton's repousse work yet from time to time, I do come across some examples that feature overlay and, as in this case, stone inlay. What impresses me here is, of course, the generously sized pendant with its "warrior" silver inlay in profile as well as the detail of the eagle figure floating in the air next to it...

A true statement piece this Antonio Pineda Bracelet is fine example of his artistry and skill with Amethyst cylinders at the center of thick concave silver links. Measures 6 3/4" long by 1" wide and is very heavy at 122.1 grams. Hallmarked with the Antonio Taxco crown, 970, Sterling, Silver, Mexico, Z719Z and the eagle 17. It's very rare to come across any jewelry by the famous Hubert Harmon making these fanciful and unique Earrings or Ear Cuffs a real treasure. Designed to wrap around the ear they feature a Wing and a Star at the top with three stars at the bottom, two of which dangle. They measure 5" long by 1 5/8" wide and together they weigh 26.7 grams. Each is hallmarked "Sterling, Hubert Harmon, Made in Mexico. In good condition with no damage noted only some light tarnish. They can be adjust slightly to fit...

This important and rare necklace by the famous Fred Davis is one of his most sought after styles and is featured in several books on fine Mexican Silver Jewelry. Chevron shaped links of solid silver are connected so it lays beautifully around your neck. It measures 16 1/2" long by 1" wide and weighs 97.1 grams. Hallmarked "FD, Silver Mexico". Secure box clasp. In very nice condition with no damage noted. A superb necklace and a fabulous addition to any collection.

Impressive in size this vintage Janna Thomas Mexican silver pendant is an example of the "pluma Azteca" technique which incorporates vividly colored bird feathers in sterling jewelry. Very reminiscent of plique-a-jour work, "pluma Azteca" was introduced by the Los Castillo workshop and it is a demanding, difficult process so it was emulated by just a handful of other Taxco maestros. Thomas excelled in it, however, and her pieces are sought after by knowledgeable collectors...

This mid-century Abraham Paz bracelet is a work of art. Paz was a master silversmith who, like Valentin Vidaurreta, produced work for Fred Davis. Much of this work was hallmarked with the FD mark for Davis. This piece, however, is signed with the AP mark for Abraham Paz, but produced for Davis to be sold at Sanborns, as it is also marked with the eagle assay 22...

A pair of abstract sterling silver brooches by Modernist NYC Silversmith, Henry Steig. May purchase individually or as a pair.

The larger one measures 2 1/2" long and 1 1/8" at the widest. Weighs 9 gr. Thick sterling. The other brooch measures 1 7/8" across and 1 1/2" high. Weighs 5 gr. This one has a more delicate feel.

They are both signed on the back Steig Sterling. They have a wonderful three dimensional feel...
