The art of "metales casados" (mixed or married metals) was practiced by several Taxco workshops yet I think Victoria was its queen. Ana Maria Nunez de Brilanti combined copper, silver and brass not only to design exquisite jewelry but also hollowware of various kinds and decorative objects. In the necklace presented here she seems to be inspired by Egyptian Revival motifs which is not unusual for her - there are at least a couple of other parures she created that tread that same path...

Circa mid-century, this Antonio Pineda cuff is a book-piece design shown in "Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda". Pure eye candy, this concave cuff features nine conical amethysts which appear to be floating on a center pivoting arm. The amethysts are wonderful old Mexican stones with natural inclusions and quartz marbling. This will fit a smaller wrist. Mine is 6" and it fits me comfortably with room to spare. Today we have a vintage Mexican silver parure made by Maestro Sigi Pineda. Sigi has had a long career in handmade jewelry within the Spratling era. His work is heavy, made with excellent stones as this parure also has. The obsidian is extreme sheen on the necklace and you may see silver dots that sparkle on the other pictures which is the camera reacting to the sheen in less light. This more-than-unique pendant is quite a piece of art. With a textured surface on both sides, it is a wonderfully abstract grid of connected, irregular squares/rectangles layered at various heights. Adding to its unusual beauty are the 3 amethyst cabochons, bezel set in protruding cylinders. The attractive patina is another plus. The pendant is made of 835 silver (stamped in 2 places). This ring is quite lovely. The green enamel is perfect, depicting an abstract heart, or the head of a snake with large, green eyes (whichever suits your mood). The solid sterling silver band tapers from the pointed tip, as it wraps around. It is just under 1/2” at its widest. The inside is marked, “DAVID-ANDERSEN NORWAY STERLING 925S.” The basic size is a 7, but the band is slightly adjustable. This piece has good heft and is in excellent condition.

Decorated with classic Nordic scene of a manned sled drawn by a moose in a snowy landscape, framed by a colorful aurora borealis. The enamel exposes nice guilloche work underneath, in a modified lozenge-shaped frame. The back bears the mark of Ivar T. Holth and the Norway mark for sterling silver. The silver is gilded.
