So-called "chain mail" jewelry is not uncommon in the world of vintage Mexican silver. One can find them in all forms, with or without stones, and in all widths, signed by known maestros and by less-celebrated makers as well. There is something very slick about this design, its interwoven "mesh" inhabiting quite comfortably both the Art Deco and early modernist worlds. The necklace at hand is an example of the narrower versions but very well made and with good weight to it...

Dating in the 1940s, this massive sterling silver and azur-malachite "mozaico Azteca" inlay pendant necklace is signed by Taxco maestro Jose Anton. I am more used to Anton's repousse work yet from time to time, I do come across some examples that feature overlay and, as in this case, stone inlay. What impresses me here is, of course, the generously sized pendant with its "warrior" silver inlay in profile as well as the detail of the eagle figure floating in the air next to it...

This sterling silver link bracelet is set with six-sided pieces of green glass. The glass is bezel-mounted and secured with strap work; four leaf-shaped pillows surround the glass on each pane. Save for a small dent in one pillow (see Photo #5, center panel), the bracelet looks hardly worn. It is marked on the tongue with ‘Mexico’ in script and sterling under it. The clasp is very secure. A gorgeous vintage sterling cuff bracelet with 5 oval high grade natural turquoise saw tooth bezel set stones by Frank Patania Sr. Measuring 5 3/4" around in the inside plus an additional 1 1/4" opening, it weighs 52 grams and is in fine original condition with no chips or cracks to the vibrant stones. Signed with Patania Sr. oval impressed hallmark as shown. A truly beautiful cuff.

This ring made by Erik Granit & Co of Finland has a sleek and modest design. The garnet is sawtooth-set. The shank is marked "E. GRANIT & Co DESIGN JEWELLRY." The other side is signed "EG" (stylized maker's mark), "925H," boat (for Helsinki), "R7" (for 1970) and "925 STERLING FINLAND." It is a size 6 and is in excellent condition.

We have a signed, early Fred Davis bracelet today to offer. The amethyst stones are a mix of milky swirl to a dark purple. When you look into them it appears to be a whole other world inside them. They are without chips or cracks. I could not do justice to them in my photos and there is reflection on their surfaces. A modernist sterling silver cuff bracelet from Denmark, designed by Knud V. Andersen for Anton Michelsen.

The cuff is made from thick sterling with a molten like texture. Measures 6" around with an opening of 1". Measures 1 1/8" at the widest. This size can not be adjusted.

Marked 925S, KVA, Danmark and with the AM hallmark of Anton Michelsen. Note that Denmark is spelled Danmark, so not originally for export.

An absolutely splendid vintage sterling, 14k and deep red coral cuff bracelet by Frank Patania Jr. It comes with its original box with the Frank Patania Thunderbird logo on it. Measuring 5 3/4" around in the inside plus an additional 1" opening, it is 1" wide and weighs 84 grams. It is in fine original condition and signed a shown. Maestro Damaso Gallegos was for years associated in my mind with the Mexican Deco "Christmas jewelry” tradition. Heavy sterling silver British ring with a chunk of iron pyrite. The English hallmarks and date this mod ring to 1969. The top of the ring measures about 3/4" in diameter X 5/8" H. The shank is 1/4"W and the ring is a sizable 8.5. It is signed inside the shank AMB which is the maker's mark and hallmarks for London, England and the year 1969. The ring is in excellent condition.

Pictured in the book "Mexican Silver Masters" by Penny Morrill on page 40, plate I-55 is this lovely and unique bracelet by Hector Aguilar. This is a pre-1948 Garcia repousse bracelet that is 1.25in. wide and 7in. long. The barrels are straight and there are no dents. The weight is 52 grams and it is made of thick silver.
