We have a signed, early Fred Davis bracelet today to offer. The amethyst stones are a mix of milky swirl to a dark purple. When you look into them it appears to be a whole other world inside them. They are without chips or cracks. I could not do justice to them in my photos and there is reflection on their surfaces. They are a fancy barrel cut and the all silver links area cut in a half cylinder shape. There are no dents or damage. A little over 1 inch tall in height and a weight of 70 grams...

Sized for a man (yet resizable by a jeweler to fit a woman as well) this vintage Mexican silver and carved amethyst "mask" ring attracted me with its unusual brutalist setting. I don't think I have ever encountered a "mask" in a brutalist ring and I was quite thrilled with the discovery despite the fact that the stone was showing its age and the shank was burdened with a huge blob of solder thanks to somebody's clumsy attempt at resizing...

There are not many cases in which "massive" is an understatement in the description of a piece of jewelry and even though Mexican silver is in general bold and beautiful, bracelets like the one presented here are worthy of special mention! Green dyed calcite was often used by the early maestros in Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance yet here the carved central "mask" is of monumental proportions...

Originally a painter who in the 1930s moved to Mexico to participate in the country’s cultural scene, Bernice Goodspeed quickly moved into designing and selling her own jewelry out of the store she and her fellow-artist husband Carl Pappe opened in Taxco. Bernice’s work does not come up often and I am very excited to have found this repousse necklace by her...

This mid-century necklace is an absolutely stunning piece, with deeply incised swirling links, silver domes, and tiny silver beading. Exquisitely hand-crafted and collector quality. Looks fabulous on and lays perfectly upon the neck. No maker's mark, but the design itself, along with #54, indicate that this is likely the work of Reveriano Castillo. 17 in. long 1 1/8th in. tall weight 85 grams This Fred Davis was designed by Valentin Vidaurreta. It was later produced by Hector Aguilar for Valentin Vidaurreta which is also listed on my site. This trapezoid shape has a higher peak and each link is a bit larger than the design made by Aguilar. The design is shown in the book WILLIAM SPRATLING AND THE MEXICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE. I could not produce photos to do this justice and only on will the shields come more tightly together. ...

The mask & detachable sterling chain weighs 100 grams. 2 loops on the front ends of the face were perhaps meant for attaching feathers or some other adornment. Rare to find and quintessentially Mexican Deco, especially if we are looking at the Mexico City school repousse pieces, these sterling silver rings with their carved stone "masquettes" are the dedicated collector's dream. Yet you don't have to be a collector to enjoy their unique character. What always attracted me to them is their "Arts and Crafts" style silver work which allows you to follow the maestro's creative journey by tracing the marks his/her tools left on the precious metal. Coveted a...
