With delicately carved features, this silver and tiger’s eye Egyptian Revival “Cleopatra” bolo tie is a small work of art that came out of the Los Ballesteros workshop. One of the best - and definitely the most persistent - Taxco talleres involved in the creation of exquisite “mask” jewelry, the Los Ballesteros used an array of semi-precious and hard- stones to create serene, out-of-this-world effigies for brooches, rings, bracelets and pendants...

I came upon my first Citlali piece many years ago and, inexperienced as I was, I initially thought that this was maybe Citlal Castillo. But in fact, the Citlali signature is the artistic "front" for the creativity and originality of Francisco Sanchez...

Here is a sweet ring made from 10kt (marked and tested) yellow gold, with a marquise or navette-shaped ruby flanked by two tiny accent diamonds. (Ruby is the birthstone for July, and is a symbol of love, devotion, and immortality – it just doesn’t get any better than that!) It also has a maker’s mark, which is either “QI” or “OJ”. The 2 diamonds are set in white metal – it’s not possible to tell whether the metal is platinum or silver. It’s size six and could be sized...

This plique a jour pendant is centered with an oval white opal and accented with eight colorless brilliants. The dropper is a fresh water pearl. The translucent enamel is an unusual and lovely blue in color. Plique a jour, that unusual, difficult, and beautiful technique, dates from the 15th century. It was used by Cellini, then revived in the late 1800s in France. The metal frame in this lovely piece is 900 silver, suggesting that the piece is most likely German or Austrian in origin...

Here is a lovely pair of white-gold-fronted double cuff links – they could have been worn by The Great Gatsby himself! Each end is marked BELAIS 14k W.G. FRONT, and is a rectangle measuring 5/8 x 1/2”, with rigid connectors, hinged at one end. There is space for a monogram, should you wish it. They weigh a total of 5g. Belais Brothers were among the first to develop a formula for white gold (patented in 1917)...

Here is a very sweet ring, consisting of a flower made of 6 pearls (1 of which is a replacement), centered by a tiny rose cut diamond. There is a compartment underneath, perhaps for storing a lock of hair, but the glass is gone. The ring tests as a very strong 14kt, so it is probably 15kt (and might be English). Cobalt blue enamel decorates the shoulders, which we’ve had touched up – this ring was obviously very well loved, and it’s still beautiful! Size 6. Early Victorian or late Georgian...

Here is a simple and elegant stickpin with a stylized flower design, based on a Japanese family crest. It is marked “k20” on the back, and tests as a very strong 20kt. The flower head measures 1/2 x 7/8”, and the whole pin is 2-1/2” long. It weighs 2.4g. The pin is a bit bent, not surprisingly given the high gold content (please see photos), and course that can’t be seen when it’s worn. Otherwise in excellent condition. Circa 1900...

Coral has been used in jewelry for thousands of years. It has been called Sea Garden because of its resemblance to a plant. Coral is used as protection from negativity and evil, and to dispel feelings of inner weakness. This pin is 14k gold and holds a coral branch. It is Victorian in age and has maker's mark, BML. The pin is 2" X 1/2". Circa 1860.

Here is a longer than usual – 2-1/4” x 1/2” – bar pin. The fancy engraving is highlighted by black enamel, and the pin is centered by a faux pearl. The central element makes us think of a gear – this would be great to wear to a Steampunk event! It shows some wear, but it’s very pretty. The clasp might be a replacement, but if so, it’s an old repair. The photos are part of the description. Please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance free within the USA.
